1. Do you need to feed them live animals?
and, if so, what? and do you raise them yourself?

3. Depends. Most snakes will eat mice, and if they are larger, rats....
It's too dangerous for the snake to feed them live rodents, as they might get bitten by them (especially by rats)

What you do is "thump" the rodent if it is alive (knock it unconscious, or kill it).

Live mice/rats cost more than frozen ones, so if you have a lot of snakes, you probably would feed them frozen. If you have A LOT of snakes, you'll probably take the time and effort to raise your own mice/rats. That's a smelly option I've found, so I usually bought them frozen.

Mind you, I haven't owned snakes for about 15 years now, but for a while in my life, they were my passion.

4. I had a friend that had a HUGE Burmese Python
He would feed it rabbits. He would buy the rabbit, and if it was female he would come over to our house so that our pet male rabbit could hump on it (He would say it was the whore bunny)Then he would take it home, thump it's head on a brick and then toss it to his snake. It was brutal. I never liked it but my ex thought it was funny and cool.

6. Yeah, I cared for a friend's reticulated python once, and had to
feed it a rabbit, and that was too traumatic for me (killing the rabbit)

I'm not a fan at all of larger snakes (over 8 feet). They are just too big, they can be dangerous, especially around small children.

2. Why would you choose them for a pet?
Serious and non- judgmental question. I think they are beautiful, I just never really thought of them as "pet" material. Do they know who you are and interact with you?

5. Absolutely NOT! They haven't a clue
They are exotic, they are easy to care for-- feed them once a week or so.

But I agree with you, and I use the term "pet" loosely. I mean, what other term is there to use? I certainly wouldn't compare a snake to, say, my cats, even though they are both "pets".

Snakes are just interesting, though their allure faded and so I don't have any anymore. But the "allure" of my cats could never fade I don't believe.
