1. How so?

I've applied to about two dozen schools in the past five years and I've found them to be more or less user friendly. It's the legwork with recommendations I could live without, but there's no way around that.

2. I've had serious issues with one particular school...

that does not clearly stipulate how my recommenders can send in their recommendations. Accordingly this same school has their "general" application, but I also need to get a special ID in order to access the actual UNIVERSITY online system. I am a former student at the school so they would not generate one for me - I had to contact the school to get my ID. After contacting the school I received my ID but then the system would not let me create a password because apparently one was already created for me. After requesting a password, it sent the password to my old UNIVERSITY address that I have neither used nor seen in more than ten years!

Now that is frustrating!

3. That sucks

Sounds like you should get on the phone with them and refuse to hang up until the issue is resolved.

4. As do online job applications.

Most are ill-designed and poorly checked for compatibility. If you have *exactly* the same system and software as the person who designed the application, it will most likely work. Otherwise, don't bet on it.

Expecting the applicant to do all the clerical work involved in the process is just another way of forcing someone to do the work for free, instead of hiring enough people to do the amount of work which needs to be done.
