Poll question: CONFESS!!! What kind of spaghetti sauce do you use?
All the makings of a classic Lounge flamefest.

Do you make your own, or use jarred/canned sauce? If you make your own, howsabout sharing that Top Secret Recipe? If you use jarred/canned sauce, what brand? Give a recommendation or two.

1. At this point in my life, I use jarred stuff...
Not store brand, but by no means exotic. I just like the standard tomato sauce with Italian sausage. Mmm, mmm, good.

Some day I'll make my own, but that requires time and patience and blah blah blah... I want my damn spaghetti NOW!

I hope that he does give the profits to charity, but it is good stuff nonetheless

17. Paul Newman does the cooking
When I'm too tired to do so. Otherwise, the canned tomatoes are the only pre-made ingredient.

5. If I find it on sale, I will stock up on Rao's Vodka Sauce
usually, it's about $8.00 a jar, but I've gotten it on sale for $4.99 - still pricey, but worth it.

Otherwise, we buy Newman's Own Marinara.

My Dad whips up a damned fine Spaghetti Sauce...There's no recipe exactly, but he uses hamburger and sweet italian sausage and then throws in canned whole tomatoes, mushrooms, diced onions, tomato paste, oregano, garlic and sometimes sweet red peppers......then he cooks it for about a month.....beats the hell out of any air freshener....

6. I sometimes make my own but most often use Newman's or Classico
I like those two (or sometimes Trader Joe's) because they have simple ingredients and taste good. I can pronounce everything in them (at least the varieties I get), good vegetarian varieties, and they don't use mushrooms in some of them (wife has allergies).

11. I admit, I'm a jarred sauce guy for the most part
but my Polish/Czech mother made a mean homemade sauce that I make from time to time.

Classico four cheese is my go to sauce when I don't have any of the homemade in the freezer.

18. I either make my own, use Newman's Own or Central Market Organic.
Central Market being the "upscale" store owned by Texas chain HEB.

21. I make my own, one of two different recipes.
Edited on Mon Oct-29-07 06:00 PM by swag
One is my sister-in-law's recipe, and one is my mother-in-law's.

Interestingly enough, both recipes are vegan (though parmesan is later added).

I add tomato paste, diced tomatoes, various spices, mushrooms, and Italian sausage to a jar of whatever store-bought sauce sounds good at the moment.

Oh, and garlic. How could I forget that? :P

and educated at the Cordon Bleu in Paris. The day I open a jar of pasta sauce is the day they'll be firing up the Zambonis in Hell.

27. super homemade
I grow too many tomatoes every year so I learned to make the sauce and freeze it in bags, I use herbs I grew too :headbang: I don't have a secret recipe though, I just mix it together and usually it's good.
But I also get the Newman sauces once in a while, they're sooo yummy :9
