Confess! Name the main thing that DOES suck in your life.
Allow me to be the first. My job sucks the life right out of me. Twelve hour shifts on my feet the whole time. Running from machine to machine fixing problems. Bosses that use us as excuses as to why they didn't meet their production goals. Builders (machine operators) blaming us for their failure to meet their production goals. Builders calling us for an excuse to get down time.
Having to wear "safety glasses" which have caused me more head injuries than I can count due to the fact they cut my peripheral vision. Having to wear "safety shoes" that cut into the sides of my feet. Having to attend meaningless "training classes" four times a year on my days off (think Sunday for you mon - fri guys). Safety & security people wandering around trying to catch you in a fire-able offense. To top it all off yearly hair drug tests & random vehicle searches.

I have six months to go until I am debt free. At that point I am going to do my damndest to find some other way to earn a living.

4. it's not your "lack of love"
it's their fear,

Do NOT blame yourself. If you have done "all you can do" then rest easy in that. Encourage the other to seek counseling, possibly medication.

I'm one of the ones "with fear". While granted, it takes a lot to gain trust, if you've done that, then you canNOT blame yourself anymore.

 for you and   for the one who is afraid.

Basically, I'm a tornado in recovery, and have put fear into the types who ceaselessly attack what they're afraid of, and cannot be reasoned with. =Whatsoever=. I'd let it go if it weren't torrential and founded upon what I was and am no longer (thanks to the tools of recovery). I can find no middle ground or means to communicate, and much of my survival (especially prosperity) depends upon their cooperation. I'm working upon my own higher ground, always. I'm dedicated to it and it works. "The path to 'I', is inside-out." -Tommy Space

Here is a rare truthful example:

http://www.synthtopia.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=108&sid=1c1a665c2da775ba1fc514c8d76e740e

Please take a screenshot. It may last longer than this post (such things tend to disappear very quickly). Fear requires deniability and cupidity to prosper, so let this truth be well-known. I am the responder, not the initiator. I despise Republican behaviour such as this.

I've read of your own trouble on DU and I hope that everything is looking up (of course, exactly as you said, regarding the inner work).

Edit to add:

That is...assuming you don't count the one guy I "hung out with" with his wife's permission and got closer to than I had wanted or planned to.....

They have a daughter now and are planning to come back into town for a visit around Xmas time. And...they want to hang out again.

*Sigh*, so much complication.

7. Hey!!!
I worked there!
Well, under the same hellish conditions compounded by
being the only female mechanical maintenance person out
of over 300.

What sucks in my life? Well this sucks sooo bad....
it could draw a vacuum on an onion bag:
I got injured on the job in 2001, almost died, was
awarded total and permanent disability by SS. The
company is still paying me workers comp, refuses to
settle and now is sending me to damn vocational rehab
for a second time, first time failed.
Now my restrictions are many and basically, if someone
will hire me for anything for about 4 hours a week, that
pays a little over $60,000 a year, they can quit paying
me workers comp. Freakin' company is so big, they are
self insured. This amounts to money shuffling in the
divisions to make annual reports look better than they
are

9. Ouch! What happened? (if you don't mind sharing)
You DID work where I work! One time these two guys were fixing a problem with a curing press. In order to make sure they had it working properly they HAD TO remove the lock-out locks. It cycled but in the opposite direction it was supposed to. One of the guys got hit with the edge of the press & broke his leg. As he was lying on the floor in pain the head of safety & security fired both of them!
The thing that gets me is that if you take the time to do things right & safe you catch hell from the production supervisors for doing things too slow. If you cut corners & get away without an injury all is well. If you cut corners & hurt yourself you get fired. I always choose option #1 when I am working. I have found a way around the "catch hell" part. I started asking the supervisor to request I forgo the safety procedures IN WRITING. For some reason they have never agreed to the terms?

15. I will share...
as much as I am legally allowed. The company is a BIG
chemical company, one of the largest in the world. One
of the processes (i worked in/on this unit) suffered
a release during start-up. Now what makes this soo bad,
the vapors that were released, contained a chemical compound
that the company sold the patent to the US for chemical warfare.
The only time the on line analyzers were allowed to show
a reading of this compound was in the waste vent stream of one of
the columns, only during start-up and only allowed for 15 mins.
If it showed up more than the time frame, we shut the whole unit
down and tried again.
Long story short, lazy tech taking a short cut left a cap off
of a manifold line. When I climbed on tower to manually open
the emergency vent, the gases escaped through the manifold.
I was trapped, inhaled massive amounts of multiple toxins.
They have yet to figure out why I did not die as every time
they have simulated the conditions - the rats die.

I am all too familiar with the 'safety be damned - we are losing
production dollars' mindset.
Hee hee - I have used the 'give it to me in writing and I will do
it' ploy myself. It never failed me.

20. Thank God you survived.
That is terrible. It's always production over safety & if you do get hurt they do their damndest to pin the blame on the injured worker. I DO hope they got rid of the lazy tech that caused the accident. Why didn't they have breathing apparatus available for situations like that? I bet they do now.
I wish you the best in your recovery citizen_jane, nobody should have to go through what you did.

39. Better than that...
Not only is he gone, my boss got canned too.
They also shut the process down and fixed
a 'bottle neck' that caused the problem with
the venting. It had been a problem since
reaming out the front and back end of the
process and DUH leaving the middle the same
size and expecting it to perform the same
way.

Thanks for your kind words. :hi:

I have heard the best way is to concentrate on the smallest, knock it out and then apply that payment on the next smallest. Pretty soon you are throwing everything at the biggest one. I hate writing checks to pay off creditors!

72. WCross......
I was unemployed during the S&L and RE bust in the 80's. Up until that time-I had never known unemployment. I had known poverty in my youth, so I always had a bit of a pantry when I could. Thank God...I used up all my pantry, went through all my savings AND my retirement savings and barely scraped by with a part time job for almost a year.

I finally got into Nursing school and the rest is history. I am working to be debt free and will be within 2 years (this has been an 8 year process and I have been credit card free for 4 years and living on 1/2 of my income too). Slowly but surely I am going in the right direction.

One of the things I swore-when I was at my lowest points-was that I would always be grateful to be able to pay a bill. I remember getting a bill and not being able to pay. I owed the money, and I wanted to pay, but I couldn't even find work to earn a living. I resorted to yard work in the winter just to survive (Had a rake-no car needed to do the neighbour's yards). I never begrudge paying a bill, esp a debt. I am grateful I can pay.

I am 27 years old and about 2 months. Anyways... I have experienced true love - it did'nt last long due to other reasons but oh how I miss that feeling... the next time I get it I promised myself to hold on to it tight. Its a beautiful thing (to be in love). The feelings in the beginning are the sweetest. Sigh ...

I wish you the best with your employment situation. I started out at my current company by working as a temp. I was just happy to have a couple of dollars back then ... sigh.I have a steady income now but I am looking for part time work to supplement my income. The grass is not always greener on the other side ...

1) The "feast or famine" nature of self-employment (income fluctuates wildly month to month) coupled with the fact that I most likely couldn't get a regular job that paid as much as this on an annual basis

I particularly mind 2) when 1) is going badly.

I really do like my job (graphic design) But why is everything due tomorrow? The f*ckin' RFP is a few weeks old, so that means it has been fermenting somewhere.

46. For some reason, I immediately thought of the Baldwin scene in the South Park movie.
Billy: Hey, Alec, you know what sucks about being a Baldwin?

Alec: No, what?

Billy: Nothing!

All Baldwins: Hahahaha!!

47. My job.
I work overnight at the worst possible place anyone could work at, doing mindless and repetitive labor. It requires no skill and the people I work with are all assholes.

I'll be done there in about a month, month and a half. Thank God.

50. My attitude, since my family moved in and I started my super stressful new job.
The stress has been more than I imagined and so it's taught me that I am not reacting to other circumstances in the best way, it's my attitude that sucks right now. :(

51. Nothing, but it sucks that it can't last.
Job is pretty good and the money is great.
Marriage is great.
Kids are healthy, straight A, well behaved, and (from my obviously biased viewpoint as their dad) the best looking little girls in the world.
Home is gorgeous.
Location is fantastic.
Personal health is very good.
Life is fun.
Lots of enjoyable friends.

The only thing that sucks is that this window of good times can't possibly continue forever.

74. Abandoned By Inspiration
Although my troubles are very insignificant compared to most, the greatest disappointment for me, over about the past two or three years (or, approximately after Bush was re-elected) is the recurrence of major depression coinciding with a near total loss of belief in or motivation to write, paint or be a creative human being. I used to do this sixteen hours a day, but the love or passion for creating just left me. Where did it go? Will it come back?

But reading these posts has made me enormously grateful for what is right in my life, and it's very hard to complain.

How do you have a life (short enough as it is) if you spend 16 hrs/day being creative? Moderation - do other things and it will come.

First semester of law school - last 6 weeks and finals. The worst part about finals is that they constitute 100% of your final grade - no pressure or anything!

I cannot wait to walk out of that last final. I'll be heading straight for the bar...
