OK I've had two birds added to my life list today
Which is odd because they both appeared at my back yard feeder that I watch daily.

Several Dark-eyed "slate-colored" Juncos and 5 Purple Finches. Both fascinating but omg at how pretty the male purple finches are!

I didn't have the feeders up last fall so it's just kinda tripping me out. Do you think they'll stay or are they just passing through on way south?

4. I hope so
They are now vying for my favorite bird slot. The male is so beautiful. It's a toss up now between the purple finch and indigo bunting (which I haven't seen since spring).

The birdies brought me a lot of joy today :)

6. I guess the one I want to see again
is the Rufous Hummingbird.

It was shortly after I became interested in IDing the birds, and I saw it twice in the same day. I had book in car, so I wrote down the colorings on paper. When I looked in book it said rare, so I doubt self. I want to see it, so I know I'm not loony. :P

I was sober and not hung over too. :D

:)

7. we had a couple indigo buntings in the Spring
I hope they come back! They were just SOOOO blue.

My favorite is the pileated woodpecker. We had one in February, but I havent seen him since. I put out some suet feeders this fall to try to get him back.

10. they are BIG
this one liked to hang his entire body underneath the feeder, and stick his head over the edge to eat. I'll have to get pics if he comes back.

good morning back at ya!

2. I saw some Juncos near my place yesterday...
and actually they really don't go too far south they are sort of nothern birds...thats why they are called "snowbirds"...usually I don't see them here in the mid-atlantic till Dec or Jan..hmmm wonder what that means?
Purple finches are beautiful. I see them quite a bit here....

3. aHa!!
The Juncos ARE the "snowbirds" I remember as a kid. I didn't put 2 and 2 together until you mentioned it.

I'm in the NW corner of North Carolina in the mountains. The weather dramatically changed in the last 2-3 days. I can't wait until the winter now. A fun day at the feeders indeed.

Cool!
