Are You Going to Dress Up for Work Tomorrow?
Edited on Tue Oct-30-07 09:18 PM by Merrick
What as?

Personally, I'm not. My first Halloween at this job people told me lots of people wore costumes, so I decided to go as a jogger (think hairy legs and lots of wrist and headbands bearing motivational slogans for physical achievement), and naturally I was the only one - and felt like a complete IDIOT.

(good thing I'm used to it)

1. We're doing a Seven Dwarfs thing.
Every year the middle school teachers dress up with a theme. This year is Snow White, etc. I'm "Nerdy."

/"I know, but what are you dressing as?"

4. I was going to dye my hair blue
But after I had bleached my hair, I like it so much I'll keep it for a bit and maybe dye it red or green for Xmas.

My only costume idea for work (shitty, shitty retail job) would've been to dress up really, really nice and if anyone would ask me what I am, my answer would be, "Me? Oh I'm just to good for this job." :P

5. I'm gonna be a witch.
Not too much of a stretch for me character wise, but still I am gonna dress up.

Black wrap style dress with high heels, a black velvet cape with spiders sewn on it, and a midnight blue (with silver spider webs) witch's hat...

It is actually office acceptable, and something I can bail out on if nobody else bothers to dress up. Remove the cape and hat and suddenly you have an average government person that is maybe dressed a little better than usual.

What REALLY bothers me is the fact that I am going to be out in the field in the morning viewing properties that have taxpayer complaints filed on them. I am gonna be out running around as a government official dressed up like a witch. I may stop at home over lunch. put on my "costume" and THEN go into the office...

What do you think? Would YOU freak out if a government wonk came to your house dressed up for Halloween?

6. My office is in my house, so it would be kind of pointless.
Might freak out the dog, but that's not enough reason to do a costume.

8. Our designers are making us...
I have two young female graphic artists on staff. They're really sweet people, lots of fun to have around and they're very industrious too.

They have decided that everyone in the building, or at least at my end of it, is going to dress up for Halloween. Hell, they even drafted the boss and our R&D guy into it. One of 'em used an hour of "file saving" time (she's working on a 1645-MB file...no, that's not a misprint, one file that's over a gig and a half long...worse is she has to turn around and make another one almost exactly like it, but reversed) to find wild-ass designs for her eyes, the other is going to be a Hell's Angel--horns and a halo.

So I am going as a Rock Drummer...wear a band t-shirt and carpenter pants, put drumsticks in the side pocket of the pants, put on some eyeliner and call it good.

'Course, I actually AM a rock drummer, so that kinda helps.

9. Oh, heavens no
I think it's unprofessional, and, strangely, I find there's nothing drearier than seeing all the people around you drudging through their typical tasks in silly getups. Costumes are for parties away from work.

10. We're having a "theme week"
Yesterday was Nick at Nite/TV Land. Today was sweater vests. Tomorrow is wear something red or orange. Thursday is wear black and white. Friday is dress like a rebel. (This is a law firm, so there's only so much a body can do.)

14. I am worried about my Mother
Here team is doing 60's style for Halloween. She asked to borrow my lava lamp and any bongs/roachclips/pipes that I had. I wasn't about to give her my bong or roach clip. (they have residue on them) but I finally gave her my key chain little pipe that I have. I just hope she doesn't get in trouble.
