2. i'm not 10 years old, have no kids
so the day is pretty much just another day.

it's nice to see the kids participating though. yesterday, they had the preschool tots all lined up on the way to the park with their costumes on. bunch of little bugs, super heroes, wizards, etc. it was fun to watch them bobble up the street with their teachers corralling them.

but infantilized adults getting all stoked for halloween? not so much.

6. oh please
"infantilized"?!?

I imagine you could come up with a less insulting way of saying what you mean if you try just a little. Just because some of us enjoy the holiday does not make us immature, unless you're willing to apply that label to everyone who celebrates Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and all the other holidays which are "for kids" but not really just for kids.

9. I agree. I like the other holidays a little, but as a non-Christian they don't mean much to me
while Hallowe'en started as a religious holiday (for adults and children I might add), it is pretty secularized.

I find it funny that there are people out there with too large of a stick up their butts to enjoy the holiday - like when someone looks at me funny if I dress up for a costume party.

Excuse me for enjoying life - I'll try to watch that... </sarcasm>

Rock on :headbang:
Years on the internet & I've decided I must be about the happiest person in the world! lolol I'm not gonna hate on much to do with HOLIDAYS. The only reason Christmas bothers me so much is all the corporations banking on it every year, that stuff's sick to me. But any reason to partey

10. Seconded. For me, Halloween and New Year's Eve are the only worthwhile holidays.
The others are watching-paint-dry boring.

19. i've talked about this before
and yes, adults lately are largely infantilized.

personally, i have no thoughts about any holiday beside thanksgiving for myself. but i get more joy watching kids having fun than seeing grown people reverting to their childhood.

if they didn't even let us get dressed up on halloween in school when i was a kid, why would i be all ga ga to dress up on halloween to go to work?

it's a child's holiday (in its modern incarnation).

the other ones you mentioned aren't specifically geared toward children.

but i'm all for kids taking the spotlight anyway. their precocity is endearing. precocity in someone who shaves, eh.

33. wait, Christmas is not geared towards children? Really?
Where the heck do you live?

I'm starting to suspect the fact that "they didn't let you dress up" in school as being part of the problem here. Lighten up. Have fun. Learn to relax and enjoy life while you can. And for the record, masquerade parties have traditionally been for adults for far longer than they were for kids - like for hundreds of years longer.

I'm guessing you grew up in the 1950s, right?

24. Is "teenageralized" a word?
When kids grown into teenagers, they figure they can act all cool and mature by rejecting anything they find childish. Usually when they grow into adults they figure out there's nothing wrong with putting on a costume and having fun. But sometimes they never out grow that phase.

29. dish what out?
the TOS restricts me from saying what i really would like to say to many people.

actually, i think i am very generous in my remarks.

still, my interaction with you or anyone else here in no way comes close to "dishing" anything out.

i simply posted my opinion that referred to no specific person, but for some reason, you chose to spit an insult.

what is your line of reasoning in that? and i'm asking you seriously. this seems to be your M.O. around here, the bornagin "brand" as it were?

did your mummy and daddy not love you enough?

He is a hgh school senior from a Paris suburb. He was so happy to dress up, and all the kids will trick or treat this afternoon for the first time. Such fun for them!

35. so, in other words, you'd rather have a holiday where someone feeds you until you fall asleep?
who's the infant again? I'd say pigging out, burping, and then falling asleep passed out from your mom's food is a lot more childish, personally. Do you make hand turkeys too? ;)

32. I can't get into what Halloween's become
— another corporatized orgy of opportunistic greed.

When I was a kid*, it was bad form to be caught trick-or-treating in a store-bought costume or to be escorted by the 'rents. Also, every newscast that evening didn't have information on where to take candy to have it X-rayed.

I gotta admit, though, that even then the emphasis on "trick" had waned considerably from when my folks were kids. Rather than being creative, it'd pretty much become just mean-spirited. :(

*Yeah, yeah. I know, I know. :eyes:
