It's not really by choice, though. Our dogs are as sweet as can be but sound like ferocious beasts when the doorbell rings. Kids think that Cujo's gonna get them at the door. :yoiks: Two hours of screambarking doesn't sit well with me anyway, so we'll be home with the front lights out and door locked. :(

On edit: Meant to say the "dogs at the door" technique is extremely effective against Jehovah's Witnesses and door-to-door salespeople. When the doorbell rings, we don't open the door---we just let the dogs do their magic and watch them leave in a hurry.

5. For years, we were the only people in our area who did Halloween.
It's not a big thing in Switzerland, but we did the whole Halloween candy thing because our goddaughters loved it and would bring their jillion little friends to our door. But this year, the girls are 13 and 15 and no longer interested in Halloween, so we're off the hook! :bounce:

19. we are not participating
Last year we saw ONE kid, so this year the door stays closed and the porch light is off. I don't see what the point is if no one is going to show up at our doorstep. Then we are stuck with all that damn Halloween candy and who eats it? We do.

21. I don't have to hide. The only kids that come to my door on Halloween
are the ones from across the street.

It helps a lot that I live on a dead end street, 3 blocks from the main road.

I even give dogs milk bones. We had our Trick-or-treating on Sunday. My favorite was a cute little girl in a gypsy outfit with a Great Dane with a bowtie and tophat.

27. You don't have to hide just don't turn the front light on. Everyone is so scarred
these days they wouldn't let their kids go to home with no light on. Many of them are having tailgate type of parties now anyway because of the child molesters.

Even if your dog barks that does not mean someone is home. :)

and they advertise it widely...only go to houses with a porch light on. That's the signal that people will have treats for you.

It works.

34. I'm holed up in the bedroom with the dogs...
but I turned my porch lights on, put out a huge bowl of candy (the good kind too) with a sign that says "Happy Halloween... Please be nice and only take a few.... thank you and have fun tonight!"

Wow, my faith in humanity has been restored...they're doing just that! It's been out about an hour and a half and is 3/4 gone. I'll fill it back up in a min.

I'd give out the candy but I can't open the door every 5 min with my dogs. This night is almost as bad as July 4th as far as the dogs go. A royal pain in the ass.

36. I doubt I'll have any
I'd actually like to get some trick-or-treaters 'cause it makes me feel good to see those kids happy, as I remember how much fun it used to be. But I live in an apartment, and I haven't had any in prior years. I don't know if parents tell their kids to avoid us creepy apartment dwellers or what...
