Bad joke; hope the upgrade works for ya! You'll see a HUGE* improvement in performance...

* No pun intended; there was no entirely innocently sounding adjective to use...

But, I hear the power consumption in the x2 series is pretty good, considering. Especially vs the Pentium D.

6. Socket 939
this is the last of the series for this mobo, it's a 60 dollar upgrade for a much faster system

and yes, this indicates that there was success. now to tweak the BIOS and get it up to full speed

9. I'm back
asus's support site was down, so when I had to flash the BIOS again for the board to up the timing to 2400 from 1800mhz I had to get the newer revision from a third party site. The second flash froze the system, stopped-heart, so I hit the reset button and it was all good. whew.

Still, it's flying now, gradients in massive photoshop documents are screamin fast now. Not Penryn fast of course, but hey, cheap upgrade from slowed to fastest proc for this board - which was the plan all along from 2 years ago
:bounce:

11. Congratulations!
ASUS used to scare the living Jesus out of me.

We would give them a test driver for a new device, ask them to test it, and next thing we knew they were shipping it out with another batch of motherboards.

I'm no longer in the business, but I still have flashbacks... :scared:

I'm running an old school PowerMac G5, dual-core 2.3Mhz machine here, but am working with my brother on planning his next PC which will probably be an overclocked Core 2 Duo machine. Even though I'm a Mac-head now, I built every single Windows machine that I've ever owned before buying this Mac 1 yr, 11 months ago.

36. What I did 2 years ago
was buy a motherboard that was going to last awhile, and the cheapest processor with it. That cut down on upfront costs.

I'd recommend you buy something that supports the 45 nm 'Penryn' processors and up, but also the core2 duos. Those 45 nm systems absolutely scream, but of course they're over a grand per processor at the moment.

I recently upgraded to an 8800GT OC2 from BFG. Crysis on medium - COD4 and everything else is maxed and sweet as can be.

I ordered direct from BFG Tech. It arrived in 49 hours and installed in 15 minutes.

Life is good.

Had to buy another antec case (all my local guy has) which has the bays you can slide the drives in from the side.

Whee!

I bought one when I upgraded and the space inside is amazing. The hard drives are mounted sideways & the dvd drives are up and out of the way. It took both of my 8800 cards with ease. There is sooo much room inside it is amazing.

...except I went ahead and bought new mobo, case and all else, reusing only my drives.

Good choice for a CPU, not expensive but does rock compared to the old 3000.

What video you running in it since you've mentioned doing FPS?

with one of the capacitors knocked off. It still runs fine, however. Built like a brick I guess, in fact I may have slighted OC'd it when I did knock that capacitor off

Will be upgrading to an 8800GT when I can find one, then beyond that, a new mobo and a quad-core of some sort.

40. LOL...get outta my case!
That's what's sitting over there in the old puter...except it was a BFG OC'd 6800GT

Is your board SLI capable? Mine was an old 939 with 8x AGP, so I forced myself to upgrade to an SLI capable when I upgraded CPUs and ended up going socket AM2 for future upgrades.

I skipped on the 8800 and went to a 7950GT w/512 meg. for economy reasons. Will probably find another and SLI them even though an 8800 will still be faster. (I'm frugal, what can I say?)

What FPS you playing currently?

43. Haven't played those...just coming back to FPS games...
...from MMORPGS.

Had an old 1800 AMD and a Ti250 and upgraded to play EQ2 to the Athlon and the 6800. (LOL, don't ya hate it when gaming drives our upgrading more than actual "work"?)

Got bored with it and tried WoW, got fed up with the "l337" kiddies and griefers in it went back to DAoC, but I just discovered Crysis. I haven't done any FPS since the old Doom days and OMG what a graphics paradise this little game is. I'm still working through the island and haven't even made shipboard or anything else, but I'm totally enthralled by this game.
