My cookbook fell apart and I hope I made this pot roast correctly..
Edited on Sat Dec-15-07 05:57 PM by Breeze54
It's a small pot roast (3-4 lbs) and I winged the recipe from memory.

Browned it on high heat in a small amt. of oil (barely covered bottom of pot)

Chopped up two medium yellow onions and threw them in

Scrubbed and rinsed 6 small potato's and threw them in... unskinned

Have frozen baby carrots to add later on...

Seasoned with garlic powder, salt and pepper and added 3 cups of water to cover

I have it simmering...

Is that about right?

3. sounds right.
maybe in future add the veggies after the roast has a good start otherwise they may become mush. I like cooking the snot out of pot roast to make it tender fall apart.
I dunno, I wing everything, never the same recipe.

5. I thought about waiting on the potato's too but
it such a small roast that i figured both would be done at the same time.

Maybe I should take them out?

I only started it about 15 minutes ago...

What else are you having, like a salad, dessert?
We're doing a prime rib oven roast tonight with acorn squash and green salad and some apple pie/Cinnamon Little pie thingys left over from a restaurant lunch on Friday.
Also watching SICKO.

7. No salad tonight... but
Edited on Sat Dec-15-07 06:06 PM by Breeze54
we have Fudge Brownie Ice Cream for dessert.

I only have 2 eggs left or I'd make brownies from a mix.

I guess I could make them with 2 eggs.

Your dinner sounds great! :hi:

I'm starving and I waited to long to put dinner on. :banghead:

But it should be nice and tender when my son gets home from work at 8:30 PM. ;)

9. I'm all out of beef boullion ....
But the meat should make it's own boullion, I think. ;)

I was in a hurry and just using what I have on hand.

I guess I remembered the recipe fairly well then! Good! :D

Maybe I'm missing celery. Oh well....

11. Absolutely the wrong way! (Not that it isn't good, I have a better way)
Put the roast in a crock pot WITH NO WATER. Cook on low all day, throw your veggies in halfway through the cooking process. The roast cooks in its own juices (aka fat) and is delicious.

12. I do it in the crock pot BUT...
pour a jar of prepared horseradish sauce over it when it first goes in. cooks off and is DELISH!

add about 2 cups of good red wine when you toss in the veggies. :9

I hear you and if I had remembered earlier, I would have done that but
I was shoveling snow out of my parking space and off my car, so I forgot. ;)

22. You are just about right!
;)

I haven't eaten any yet and I haven't gone to the store yet, although

I do have my boots on but it (the roast) is actually falling off and seems

tender and the potato's are done (only one split open) and I just added the

carrots; so it didn't take long to cook at all. I'm just going to let it simmer

for a little while longer. It actually already made a nice thick gravy too!

Thanks for your advice and humor. :D

23. O_M_G! ~ It came out fantastic!
Needed a little salt but otherwise... the meat just fell apart and the potato's held up and
the carrots were just as sweet as can be, as if they were fresh and the gravy was magnificent! :P

All in all, a good meal was had by all! :)
