I'll try to stay away, at least for tonight. If I'm lucky, for many more days, too.

2. I don't think it's right for people to be cruel to you
Edited on Tue Aug-05-03 10:59 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
But perhaps you can accomodate their requests. The other day when I questioned you, you changed your story several times about why you frame your questions and issues as you do.

You are free to post what you want but how about clicking other threads and reasing them where many of your questions and issues are already being addressed.

It's like this. You're part of a community. If you want consideration, demonstrate some.

If we were gathered around a great big dinner table, everyone would soon tire of humoring me or humoring you.

7. There is no community here...
absolutely none.
People might think there is, but there is not.
There are posters who spend all day on this board.
That is whatever you wish to believe it is.
Community it is not.
There is ZERO interaction beteween NEW members on this board.
And that is sad. But it is, nontheless, true.

14. Community
a) A group of people having common interests: the scientific community; the international business community.

b) A group viewed as forming a distinct segment of society: the gay community; the community of color.

c) Similarity or identity: a community of interests.

d) Sharing, participation, and fellowship.

Just because your experience has disappointed you, doesn't negate the experience of everyone else hereabouts.

I acknowledge that these fora can be a bit rough on newcomers. Your experience will be equal to your participation if you're persistent.

16. Zero is a pretty absolute number. I think you're seeing what you wish
Edited on Tue Aug-05-03 11:13 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
People often join DU come to the lounge and introduce themselves. They share about what brought them here.

My own take on it is that people who have a difficult time surviving in this group are not too awful different in life. If you put people off in life, you'll do it here.

When I was new, it took me about 100 posts to make myself known. After that I sank or swam on my own merits.

Generally, we try to welcome new members, but when there has been wholesale disruption (as has occurred lately) one might perceive it as anti-social behavior rather than weariness.

I can attest to the fact that this is a community in every respect.

17. That is absurd…
I’m still new, and I was welcomed into this community right away. Since I’ve been here I have interacted in lively debates with people over 3000 posts and people with 3.

21. I'm not being flippant but you're too new to know
Yes, with so many DUers, some of the "newbies" get ignored. I remember how it was when I started over a year ago. For some reason I don't have as many posts as some who started 6 months after I did. Hmmmm- I must be anti-social.

29. Easy assumptions to make
Case in point, one of my somewhat famous "so I infiltrated a freeper meeting this weekend" threads attracted admitted freepers to respond. I posted the first of that type with about 30 posts under my belt.

You're making an assumption based on little data, trust me on this. Everyone here posts something that they either think is hilarious or requires a response, or other, but gets neither a congratulions response nor a fuck you but "hi" that would be expected. Sure there are some posters that get more responses, but such is life.

Some of us push buttons that are sensitive, some of us push buttons that are already pushed, some others wait for buttons to be pushed, either way, we are all just simple posters on a free message system called DU.

4. Please don't do this.
Why are people so thin skinned these days, lord!

Just give us a breather between posts, LOL! I wish there was a cap on how many threads you can start a day--not just for you.

Why do you have to take it so seriously? Get some sleep and come back tomorrow for pete's sake.

I hate when people post posts about how they're leaving, as if they're hanging in the doorway waiting for people to beg them to stay.
If someone's going to go, go! That's an online pet peeve of mine. Ugh.

But the GD is a busy fourm, and if you post and ever thought that come into your head you eat up bandwith and push other peoples threads down and out.

18. Hello, I must be going
Hello, I must be going,
I cannot stay, I came to say, I must be going.
I'm glad I came, but just the same I must be going.
La La.
I'll stay a week or two,
I'll stay the summer thru,
But I am telling you,
I must be going.
I'll do anything you say,
In fact I'll even stay!
But I must be going.

I sense that you are young. There are a lot of younger posters on DU. They have made themselves known and are some of the best contributors.

25. You will develop stronger opinions by responding on threads
The first few times I responded I was attacked. It was kind of funny because I was attacked for something I had not even written. But it gives one a chance to think and to clarify--and (rarely--I'm stubborn) change one's opinion.

Practice responding before you disappear. (But thinned skinned people probably should avoid political message boards.)

Especially annoying when duplicate threads started by the same person. Just ain't right.

Quit it.
