She is HOME
Nicole/WannaBe/Nik/Nikki is home, where she belongs.

Christmas Eve, James and I got ready and loaded up the car to go to MrG's brother's house. We were going to stop and visit Nik at the hospital on the way there, I was going to drop off James and come back. I stopped at her favorite restaurant to get her some "real food" and we went up. We were there for about 20 minutes when her doctor came in. He asked her how she was feeling, mentioned that there were several cases of pneumonia coming in and that he was worried that she would contract it and asked if she felt up to coming home. Of course she did. :) I went and dropped off James while they were removing drains, and IV's, doing last urinary tract infection test etc. and came back. As we were getting her ready, her incision ripped open. Why do they remove staples so very early. She started to cry, thinking she would be stuck in the hospital, but they re-stapled and we went home.

She is doing really well, except her antibiotic pills are horse pills that I have to crush and mix with juice. She also has trouble with the painkillers and is a little afraid to take them. I have a call in to get liquid forms. She is getting herself up except for at night, I help her.

She was the best Christmas present ever.

I appreciate all of the good wishes and vibes that I am sure helped save her life and my sanity.

Christmas day was very sad...his absence is so very huge in this house, and I need him very badly. Not want...need.

Today it is 4 months since I last felt his hug and I need to feel that hug, gaze into those insanely gorgeous eyes and let him know that he is/was/will always be special to so many people. He never felt it and always sought it... in all that he did. In a sick twist of fate, I happened to look at the clock at the exact time that I knew he was gone, four months ago, and I am crushed and somewhere back there on that day.

My daughter's best friend/sister/daughter to myself and my husband gave me a bracelet that she had made out of the flowers from the service. It is beautiful, and I will wear it everyday. The thoughtfulness of teenagers blows me away.

This is what they look like:
www.keepsakerosaries.com

She gave us bracelets. Nicole's is orange (from the tiger lilies), hers is yellow, from the roses on the casket, and mine is both...for both of the girls.

I just don't want it to always be memorializing him. I want to be able to talk about him in the first person again, and it's killing me that I can't/won't/never will again.

Thanks again everyone, for everything.

Laura

2. The good thoughts will keep coming for a while.
I hope your daughter has a full recovery with no complications.

I wish there was something anyone could do to help you with your grief. The standard advice that "Time heals all wounds" just doesn't seem to be enough. :(

I know you are very happy about that, but you are also filled with deep sadness because you miss your husband so very much.

I wish there were something I could do to ease your pain, but I know I can't, so I will offer you a  and my prayers that the sadness and pain will ease a bit over time.

56. I once spent Christmas Eve in the Hospital
When I was 14 I had to have surgery and for some reason agreed with my parents that it would be a good idea to have it done right before Xmas so I could get back to school faster after the holidays. WHAT WAS I THINKING???

I remember feeling really bummed that I wasn't home, and then around 12:30 am I was watching TV and Andy Gibb came on and sang, "I just want to be your everything" - it was very comforting and I remember thinking someone was looking out for me.

I'm happy to hear your daughter is home and hope that whoever or whatever her equivalent of Andy Gibb is, she gets lots of it and feels back to her old self soon.
