Email problem
I am not sure exactly what is going on here but when I open up Thunderbird, it downloads a few emails but then stops. I get an error message "The DELE command did not succeed. Error marking a message as deleted. Mail server pop-server.stx.rr.com responded: ."

And that is it. I do not know if this is a Thunderbird problem or a problem with my mail server. I do not have this problem on my other computer. I believe all the settings are the same. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Usually it takes me a few tries to get all my email downloaded.

1. Start with the old standby....

Reboot the computer.

But I believe it's a problem with the server. A call into their support may be in order - good luck with that.

2. Try logging into your Roadrunner email account using....
...the Webmail interface on the Roadrunner website. Then delete any messages in your deleted items box. Check your inbox for any messages that look corrupted or unreadable. Then retry downloading the messages using Thunderbird.

Roadrunner's mail server may simply have choked on some bit of mail or other.

3. For the time being, try changing the settings so they don't automatically delete the emails from the
server.

And contact roadrunner about it, it sounds like it's probably a problem on their end.

6. I will try that first.
it's odd though that this problem doesn't occur on my other computer. I need to make sure all the settings are the same.

4. Probably the server ...

Roadrunner's servers are notoriously crappy, i.e. buggy.

What it is telling you is that when Thunderbird sends the command to delete the message from the server after it is finished downloading it (this is an option in your server settings) it is failing and apparently stopping at that point.

This has problem, but you could try turning off the option to delete messages after you download them and see if that helps, but you'll probably have to manually go into your e-mail account (does it have a web based e-mail interface?) and delete them from time to time to prevent your mailbox from getting too full.

5. I don't have this problem on my other computer
And I think the settings are the same. But I will try this first. It does have a web-based interface too.

7. If this is not happeningf on the other computer...
it's likely a problem with the one with the problem.

Try using another mail app and see if it works, leaving mail on the server so you can dl it to Firefox later.

Reinstalling Firefox may be necesary-- some dll or ini thingy may have been corrupted or reset. I had a similar problem with Eudora once, and a reinstall solved it.
