Apple released the NEW and IMPROVED Mac Pro towers today.

I am going to get one to assist in research, and to have fun on too of course... I have been waiting for this for a while.

3. That's a good price for two of those processors, but when you start adding components
the Apple overhead really shows itself.

2 more gigs of ram? That'll be 500 dollars please - ripoff
Raid card = 800? ripoff

If they would knock that kind of crap off, I'd consider getting one.

4. Rule number 1 of buying from apple...
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 12:15 PM by jasonc
NEVER buy RAM from Apple, RAM is ALWAYS cheaper somewhere else.

Rule number 2, buy as few accessory devices or HDDs as possible from them, they are ALWAYS cheaper somewhere else.

5. I gathered that
but it's even insulting how the price up the extra drives.

You start with a 320GB, but if you want to raid anything else, you have to upgrade the first drive for another 100 dollars as well.

Sure, I could get RAM elsewhere, and probably would, but I'd like my OS factory installed on RAID1, and then add my own storage drives later. It's just not very 'nice' of them.

6. You can always do that yourself
buy your own drives and raid them and reinstall the OS.

7. but it's a mac and I don't want to have to do it myself dammit
:D

still, they slaughter you on simple upgrades which would complement the performance of the rest of the box.
