2. He retired.
I think all the team went through this year had something to do with it. Also, his grandson has leukemia.

12. Yep, end of a second era.
It was very sad when Walsh died, BTW. Another class act.

I hate football and have no idea who this guy is, but I wish him and his family all the best. That poor kid. :(

5. As a life long Cowboys fan I always had the utmost respect for Joe Gibbs.
At least, for him, he went out totally kicking our asses in the last game of the regular season.

Best wishes Coach.

6. I'm pretty bummed about it; but I think he made the right decision...
His grandchild has leukemia. He was emotionally broken up by Sean Taylor's death. And he loves this team. I know that Gibbs is the kind of coach who thought about what was best for the team as much as what was best for himself.

Gibbs is a decent, caring guy...even if he is a republican. ;-)

8. I know he probably did what was best for his family
But I am still sad, and will miss him. It was under his first tenure here that I became a Skins fan as a child...

9. Good riddance to a Bible thumping racist scumbag
Back in 1988 Doug Williams put on the most dominating performance ever in a Super Bowl. Gibbs knew that the powers that be wouldn't tolerate a strong black leader. He called running plays most of the second half so that Williams wouldn't re-write the record book. Then he made sure that Williams was out of football within two years.

Motherfuck him and John Wayne

10. Uh no....
I believe that if you ask Doug Williams about that now, he would not say Gibbs was a racist. BTW, they called running plays in the second half, because thats what the Redskins always did with a lead.BTW Timmy Williams set a whole lot of records and he was black too. Plus Williams had a bum knee, which bothered him quite a bit after that game and was out of football soon because of it.Wow man.
No one has EVER said that. Why don't you ask Darryl Green his partner in charity work on that? He might have a much different view
Thats got to be the most ignorant post I have ever seen about Joe Gibbs.

13. I sincerely hope this is satire.
You really think that the man who mentored and coached countless black players to greatness was a racist at the center of a conspiracy to blackball Doug Williams (the man Gibbs gave the starting job to at the beginning of the '87 playoffs)? Possibly the most ignorant post I've ever seen in my 5 years at DU.
