1. I do, but I prefer Alamaden Golden Chablis.
I have many expensive wines in my wine rack, but I prefer the boxed Chablis.

2. Hmm, have to look for that last one
the French Bordeaux in the actual box. Clever. :D

My problem with a lot of the cheaper reds is that they are not dry nor meaty enough for me. I don't even especially appreciate "jammy." I like peaty, smoky, cedary. I should probably try scotch.

8. It's very cyclical.
If losers drink wine from a box, then drinking wine from a box makes one a loser. :P

I keed, I keed.

It doesn't make you a loser.

It just means that wine snobs like me will poke fun at you. :)

15. But I am also a wine snob.
I have many fine wines in my wine rack, but for casual drinking (like when I come home from work after fighting traffic), I prefer the boxed Chablis.

17. For me it's just a line that I can't bring myself to cross.
Despite the fact that I've always been fairly poor.

And that opinion was reinforced when I first started doing homebrewing. Just about any plastic involved in the proces = bad tasting wine.

9. Wrong. My newest favorite is Stimson from a Washington winery.
Very nice, very oaky. I can only get it at my favorite restaurant, though.

25. this begs the question, however: Why drink wine from a box?
What is the point of doing so?

Bottles stopped holding wine, or something? Can't find a big enough bottle?

28. People who aren't American
This is probably the only country where box wine is looked down upon and the people who like it are ridiculed. And that's fine with me because that leaves more for the rest of us who do like it. Like sniffing the cork, boxed wine helps separate educated wine connoisseurs from ignorant wine snobs. Don't sniff the cork, look at it to see if it's crumbling.

There are some great premium bag-in-a-box wines out there like Black Box or Wine Cube. It doesn't oxidize because air doesn't get into it. It fits nicely in a fridge or anywhere else. You can take it places that don't allow glass. It has a spigot. It's like <$20 for 3 liters. If you serve it to people but don't let them see the box, they'll think it's expensive stuff.

But I also like stemless glasses, artificial corks, and screw tops. Flame away.

Americans need to learn that in foreign countries, even France and Italy, the majority of wine that's consumed is cheap, common, non-vintage regular plain old table wine.

And, while some boxed wines - esp. back in the 80s - were and are deplorable shit, the majority nowadays (just like the majority of bottled wines; Alice White being a rare nauseating exception to that rule) are perfectly wonderful.

The expensive wines are for special occasions.

For everyday drinking, do what the wine country folk do - drink the cheap stuff. It's too damned expensive to drink a $10 or $20 bottle every meal.
