How did THIS product name get past the CEO?
Home Depot buys all its point-of-sale equipment from NCR, and we've got a shitload of it: over two thousand stores, between twelve and thirty registers per store, plus all the equipment in the back end...you do the math. Anyway, it's a pile of equipment. And we, as a company, are replacing it all with the Latest and Greatest from NCR.

NCR's latest and greatest is really fucking nice, I'm here to tell ya. Nice big screens, credit card readers with little shields over the REAL keypads (none of this "buttons on the LCD touchpad" thing we had in the past, but actual keys) to allow you to feed in your PIN in some semblance of privacy, more speed, more screen real estate, more and better of everything.

And a little tag on the front: "RealPOS."

Didn't anyone tell them what POS means to someone who's not in the retail business?

1. lol
I'm sure there is an internet message board savvy person or two high up in NCR. They probably just giggled and let it roll. Not sure I wouldn't have done the same thing.

5. We had TruePOS at my summer job
Of course, at Kmart, our registers were really a POS, not fancy and new

7. Having had to use a POS machine in a previous job
I sympathize with the poor employees trying to get the buggers to work right. And of course, it's really easy to make fun of the machines, what with the name and all. :)
