I heard that every school in Mass. is closed today. All the bushes outside my back door

are totally bent over from the weight of this heavy, wet snow. I'm staying in! ;)

2. Many people are out on the roads here too but
Edited on Mon Jan-14-08 08:02 AM by Breeze54
the schools are all closed. The plows are out but some up in northern MA
are reporting that the plows are few and far between. That's not good!
The visibility is being reported as very bad, I can see why. This Nor'easter
is blowing in ever direction. The State police are asking people to stay home,
if they can do it.

just a morning event. That's a good thing! She should be OK! ;)
There are delays at the airport right now but they should be gone by tomorrow!

I asked them the same question! "Why the hell are you calling me?"

which is rather unusal. SAD 5 (Rockland) is always last to close. Camden is always first. (bunch o' pansies out in Camden, lol)

It's really starting to come down now. Now big flakes, just the little ones that tell you it's going to snow for hours.

Snow Knocks Out Power To More Than 10,000

http://wbztv.com/local/snow.noreaster.barry.2.629122.html

BOSTON (WBZ) ―

Slick and slushy roads aren't the only danger Monday as a classic Nor'easter slams New England.
The heavy wet snow is also bringing down tree branches and trees themselves.

There are reports of trees down in Hingham, Dedham, Mattapan and Allston.

Spokesman Peter Judge of the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency said the heavy, wet snow
was causing some tree limbs to snap, resulting in scattered power outages.

There are 10,000 scattered outages in Eastern Massachusetts from Boston to the Waltham and Framingham areas.

Judge said there were initial reports of about 7,500 customers without power in Western Massachusetts Monday morning.

The MBTA's Mattapan hi-speed Red Line is being diverted Monday morning between Mattapan and Ashmont due to a tree blocking the tracks.

WBZ viewer Michael Page sent us a photo of a tree that fell Monday morning on Wanders Drive in Hingham, just missing a van.

Two WBZ employees weren't so lucky, as a giant tree came down on a truck and a car in the station parking lot.

The threat of trees coming down and causing damage will only get worse Monday, with heavy snow expected to fall until Noon.

People living on the Cape and Islands aren't expected to get as much snow; instead they need to be concerned about heavy winds with wind gusts could go as high as 50 miles an hour.

14. I was the only person on the road for a while
Edited on Mon Jan-14-08 09:40 AM by DS1
and I suspect I'll be the only person in the office for much longer. It'd be nice if the 'management' would call and let me go at noon, so at least I'll be driving home in somewhat daylight. Visibility was unbelievably bad, with large snow drifts across most of the roads you discovered as you were smashing into them and correcting direction.

Dunkin Donuts, even with nobody in the drive-through, still managed to be slow as hell.

Opposite kind of snow here, tiny flakes that act as lube between your tires and the road, and make it very difficult to keep your windows clean.

16. The state police are advising people NOT to get on the roads at noon
but wait until later on so that the plows and sanders can clean up the roads. There's a bunch
of accidents all over the state... many on 495, the Mass Pike is reduced to 40 mph right now
and I heard it's down to one lane on I-93. You might be better off waiting until later on to head home.

39. Drivers Urged Not To Leave Work Early Monday
Drivers Urged Not To Leave Work Early Monday

http://wbztv.com/local/snow.noreaster.traffic.2.629154.html

This picture says it all. Boston gridlock from December 13, 2007.

BOSTON (WBZ) ―

The monumental traffic jams that occurred on state highways during a December 13 storm appears to be fresh on the minds of state emergency management officials as they deal with Monday's Nor'easter.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency issued an advisory urging motorists to take public transportation if possible.

Those who must drive were urged to leave plenty of time and make sure they had a full tank of gas.

MEMA also recommended that people remain at work all day and not try to leave early.

Spokesman Peter Judge said those who do leave early risk becoming part of the problem, not part of the solution.

During last month's storm -- which started around midday -- many businesses dismissed workers early. The resulting crush of cars clogged roadways and created hours-long traffic jams.

It took one WBZ employee more than 6 hours on the Mass. Pike and Route 128 for his normal 45 minute drive from Boston to the North Shore.

MEMA activated its emergency management headquarters in Framingham at midnight as well as three regional centers in Tewksbury, Bridgewater and Agawam.

They fall asleep and lose their grip on the tree branches. Not the world's smartest critters - you'd think they'd have enough sense to climb down when they start getting drowsy. So far, no one has been injured by a falling iguana, but yesterday they reported on NPR that some woman dragged a hibernating iguana into her house to warm up, and it proceeded to trash the place when it awoke.
