Today was a wee bit crazy. As those of you who saw my posts from a few months ago know (and for those who don't, I'm reiterating), I moved in with my grandparents to help them out. My grandpa has been through a few major surgeries and was unable to get around very well under his own power.

Well, for a while he was getting better. He graduated from wheelchair to walker, and then to using a cane. Then he started getting a bit worse. First back down to walker... and the last week he's been using a wheelchair. Today... we couldn't even get him out of be and into the wheelchair.

And since he has to be able to do things like getting up to go to the bathroom, and getting out of the house three times a week for dialysis (the main reason I moved up here. He needs someone strong enough to help him get around to drive him to and from dialysis), well, that's a bit of a problem.

So first we called his physical therapist, and she came in to take a look and we all came to the conclusion that he can't wait until the doctor's appointment we made later this week. So we called an ambulance and got him to the hospital.

Unfortunately I had some things that I had to do right then (now that I'm living in a place where I don't have to pay rent I can afford to go back to school. I had orientation today.) so my grandma followed in her car and I went to do my things. Her cel phone is off so I can't get ahold of her and I don't know how things are going there. She did manage to get word out to the rest of the family while I was gone though, the emails are flying back and forth and within 3 minutes of getting home one of my aunts called.

We're hoping that this will be a good thing, and whatever was keeping him off his feet will be something simple and fixable and he'll be hobbling about in his walker in no time. But for now... well, we just don't know.

5. Okay, so I haven't been able to get ahold of my grandma

so I don't currently know what's going on at the hospital. (I'm assuming her cel phone battery conked out. She doesn't keep it charged very well.) And since I don't know if she'll need me to bring anything there or anything like that, I can't even relax with a cold beer right now. :\

So instead I fixed myself something that won't keep me from being able to drive. Hot chocolate. :)

...that's quite a gesture to do, by moving in to take care of them.

I hope things work out, and your presence may help to give them a little boost/lease on life. BTW, I've been to the Rochester area many times, and I love up-state NY. In the summertime, I think that's one of the most beautiful areas I've ever been.

Just got ahold of my grandma, they still don't know what's wrong but he's settled in at the hospital for now and they'll make sure he gets his dialysis and whatnot that he needs while they try to figure out what's wrong and get it fixed. :)
