Rock Bands that perform in movies not about rock or rock bands
Today I was remembering that the Feelies played the band at Melanie Griffin's 10th high school reunion in Jonathan Demme's Something Wild. Particularly memorable for me was their sincere rendition of "Fame" (Bowie's, not Alan Parker's). I thought about what a brilliant stroke of Demme's it was to put a cult band in the role of hired musical guns.

And then I remembered another film with a scene with a band in it, and another, and another... I won't say what those were, I'll leave it to anyone who wants to play along.

50. well, the Stones were the first punks ...
and still pretty much are. Stones, Animals, Yardbirds, other blues-based rockers.

All these people knew each other, too, and hung out in the same clubs. Those early days in London are really interesting.

I found this fascinating

Original pre-Led Zep "Dazed and Confused" by the Yardbirds, with Page on guitar. Same arrangement.

54. Beck is so cool in that scene...not only a master player, but he pretty much codifies...
the image of the sullen badass guitarplayer.
Remember at that same time, Keith Richard was still grinning and bobbing his head like some kind of Beatle wannabee.
Keef eventually adopted that image, but had not yet done so at that time

They were credited as "The Willies" which is also a great name for a band.

I was just disappointed that none of their music made it on to the soundtrack CD... the piece that's playing when Ray shows up is just perfect. (Boy with Perpetual Nervousness?)
