A winter storm warning has been posted for tomorrow for the area where I live.
This means one of two things: it will amount to zero, and all that road salting they've been doing today will be useless, or it'll amount to a foot or more of snow with a crust of ice. One thing is certain, though....the pack of wild dogs that runs through the grocery stores at the first hint of a remote possibility of a storm has already sprung into action, wiping the shelves clean of bread and milk. It's been so long since it's actually snowed here that I hope I actually recognize it if we really do get wintry precipitation. :P

The last time we hadn't had snow in a long time (about six years ago) and we had what looked to be a minor storm in January, the "wintry mix" resulted in a fifteen-inch snowfall at my house. There was a crust of ice underneath. I got up at 6 AM that day to get ready for work, and when I opened the back door to let my dogs outside, I couldn't get the storm door open because of the snow on the deck. Twenty miles west, the school where I worked got nothing. Nada. Niente. They had a hard time believing I had that much snow until I sent them digital pics.

I'm not holding my breath this time. I'll believe it when I see it. :) Oh, and it's my husband's birthday tomorrow. He hates it when it snows on his birthday.

2. QUICK- You HAVE to buy milk & bread!
Every time they even utter snow on the news here in the Nashville area people wipe out the bread & milk at Krogers.

5. it's a 'winter weather advisory'
which, of course, means "cold rain" and/or "disappointed schoolchildren." Nevertheless, despite the lack of any frozen precipitation, Triangle roadways will be impassable tomorrow morning. Par for the course.

9. Here's the advisory for the Atlanta metro area where I live.
And believe me, it isn't going to be pretty because people here do not know how to drive in this kind of weather.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 6 AM EST THURSDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PEACHTREE CITY HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 6 AM EST THURSDAY...ALONG AND NORTH OF A LINE FROM FRANKLIN TO GRIFFIN TO MONTICELLO TO WARRENTON.

AT THIS TIME...IT APPEARS THE GREATEST CONCERN WILL BE THE THREAT OF SLEET OR SNOW MIXING WITH THE RAIN THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. NO SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATIONS OF FROZEN PRECIPITATION ARE EXPECTED. DUE TO INCREASING EASTERLY WINDS...TEMPERATURES ARE NOT EXPECTED TO WARM MUCH DURING THE AFTERNOON...REMAINING IN THE LOW TO MID 40S.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW...SLEET...OR FREEZING RAIN WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES...AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.
