Broken tooth, extraction tomorrow, dental phobia...shit!
It appears that I have split a molar right down the middle and exposed the nerve...can't describe the pain but I'd take the goddamned thing out myself if I could. My denist says it can't be saved so it's coming out in the morning. I cannot tell you how afraid I am of dentists...bad childhood experiences, I guess. Anyway, this is not life threatening but I want sympathy!

PS. I asked the dentist how this happened and he said...age...shit, shit, shit!

1. Sorry. I have had dental problems all my life.
I know the pain. You know what will help, believe it or not. Swish some rum around in your mouth. That will help numb it. And also drink some of it. That will numb your whole body.

3. I had to have a root canal not that long ago and I was in the same boat.
Terrified of the dentist.

Could not believe how pain free the experience was! Good luck, Raven!

6. Honestly, I couldn't believe how much it DIDN'T hurt.
loaded me up with all sorts of topical pain killers and then the lidocaine.

The worst part was that I had to keep my mouth open for almost 3 hours. But no pain. None at all.

8. Plenty of drugs, no pain, no sweat
Seriously, I've been going through the same thing myself recently. The cracked molar extraction was nothing. Getting the damned veneers for the front teeth was what hurt. I would never do that again if I didn't have to.

9. Awww Raven,

Hope it goes well for you. I had a similar experience a few days before my youngest son's wedding. I can understand your wanting to take it out yourself.

I'm sending you all the sympathy I can muster. and good vibes that your pain will ease and the tooth will come out easily.

11. I have severe dental phobia, so much that I've had treatment, but ...
I can tell you that, every time I've gotten worked up over going, it SO wasn't worth it. I'd think crazy things like ...

"The dentist will be offended by the state of my teeth."

"It's going to hurt terribly."

"Something's going to go wrong."

I've yet to have any of the above happen, and that's across both several extractions and fillings. I had my last extraction months ago and, aside from pressure, I didn't feel a thing. It did hurt a little at first, but the dentist listened and immediately stopped to numb me further. That's priority #1: get a dentist who takes his time and listens to you.

13. Ask for gas --
I too have dental phobia -- gagging -- tearing up -- clenched fists - the whole thing. I recently broke 2 teeth eating Almonds..... so had to suffer through 2 crowns. I got gas for the first time and it made it all so effortless -- it just relaxes you so well and it's temporary - I was able to drive home afterwards.

I'm going to ask for gas everytime I go to the dentist from now on.......

try it :)
