Has anyone ever done an INTERNAL CLEANSING PROGRAM?
If you have, what program did you do? What were the results? Any recommendations? I'm interested in trying one, so please share your experiences.

1. My dear ALiberalSailor...
These are not a good idea...

You are not carrying around tons of toxins that need to be purged.

Reputable doctors (like the ones at Berkeley Wellness Newsletter) completely condemn their use...

Just my two cents...

2. Thanks CalPeg...
I'm just trying to get some information. I know people who swear by them, and some who say they're a crock.

7. I have a friend who has done The Cleanse a couple times.
She swears by it. She said you can hear, see, smell and taste things better.

I'd love to try it at some point.

Now that I think of it, someone here did one not that long ago. I want to think it was underpants.

12. It was underpants. He did the lemonade diet and was
talking about how much better he felt. No joint pain, no snoring.

Yeah, I tried the salt water one
I am very suspicious of anyone who wants my money, but I found this one that only requires salt and water. It worked as a laxative. I felt better. But I only did it for 3 days instead of the full week. I felt instantly better the first 2 days but then it wasn't making any more difference so I stopped. I eat a reasonably healthy diet to begin with so I probably don't have a lot of stuff that needs to be cleaned out.

As to whether "it works" or "is malarky" is very much in the eye of the beholder. It depends on what you want from it. For me, it certainly made my bowels feel better. I'm skeptical about doing it for any other reasons. It makes sense to avoid processed junk food, grease, and alcohol. I'm pretty confident that anyone would feel healthier without eating these things.

8. i've done the "Master Cleanse" a few times
interesting experience....it's cheap too, no fancy products to buy.

The Master Cleanse is basically a juice fast combined with something that flushes out your digestive system every day. You can do the juice fast without the digestive flush, but you will feel terrible after the 3rd day. You will feel totally fine (except hungry) if you do the flush every day. You can also substitute herbal laxative tea.

It takes a lot of willpower to not eat. They say you won't be hungry but you are. I've done it for 3 days, 7 days, and 10 days. It does clean you out, pretty much totally if you go for at least 7 days. I lose about 20 pounds for the 7 and 10 day ones. (wasnt trying to lose weight) Once you come out of the fast, you do feel much better than you did before you started. It's kind of like a reset button for your body.

Watch out for some of these cleansing guru wackos.....they take this stuff to extremes and it becomes like a religion to them. (original MC author included, he makes claims that are easily disproven by an introductory high school biology textbook)

13. Another vote for the Master Cleanse.
I did lemon, maple syrup and cayenne. The lemon covers electrolytes, the maple syrup provides some carbs and minerals and the cayenne is for cleaning out mucous, etc.

I did it for 6 days. I used senna herb tea for a "laxative". It was quite an experience. I felt like I was on a mild hallucinogen from day 2 onwards except my personality was much quieter and observing. I didn't feel the need to participate in every moment I passed through.

11. There's an ayurvedic process called pancha karma which I think is safe and beneficial.
Edited on Thu Jan-17-08 07:22 AM by Perry Logan
As you probably know, ayurveda is traditional east Indian medicine. I've had "pancha karma" several times and think it's great. It is readily available in the U.S., and you can find out all about it on the web.

Needless to say, you should talk to your doctor first.

16. I've done cleanses - there are good products and rip-offs
Basically a 'cleanse' is to clean out excessive waste trapped in the colon. And stuff gets in there especially if you have a habit of not eatting healthy (which trust me - been down that path).

I've started a new diet program - nothing fancy, just following that damn pyramid as much as I can but I have used this product in the past for cleansing and it is a decent product. Just follow the instructions and ESPECIALLY the part where they recommend you work up to the amount recommended daily. Call me silly, but after a cleanse I do feel a bit more energenic, but that's just me.

http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=VS-1540

Vitamin Shoppe has great prices on all of their products. I've also never forgotten one of the first NYC protests we did, when we walked past a local Vitamin Shoppe in lower Manhatten, the employees handed out cold bottles of water to the protesters. This was 2003 when War & Bush were still pretty popular.

I would avoid the 'colonic' - I've had people tell me horror stories of stuff not quite being done right and having their colon screwed up because of it.

21. I've done the Master Cleanse several times.
mostly 10 days, but last year I did a 21 day cleanse just to see if I could do it. Whew, it was pretty incredible. I've always felt amazing afterwards. It's like hitting the "re-set" button on your body. It's not for everyone, though, because it's pretty stringent and you have to be really committed. The first few days are the hardest, with hunger and caffeine-withdrawal headaches, but once you get past those it's much easier. I had tons of energy, slept wonderfully, felt emotionally and spiritually more grounded.
