everyone here knows my auto history anyway, pretty much. Nothing that isn't public knowledge.
They told me months ago that getting named-non owner insurance for my husband (he has two DUIs and a SERIOUS wreck on the insurance)would take him off my policy, saving me almost $500. Right now I only carry liability, because of this situation. I bought a new car a week ago,and called for a quote on getting collision and comprehensive two weeks ago (when I was looking at the car). I was told that I could get Collison/Comp; as soon as I removed my husband from the policy (via named non-owner).
My premium for the policy is due today (I have until sun to pay). It is $485. We've been saving up all week to be able to pay it (forgoing heating oil in the process) because if I let it lapse even a DAY, NC will fine me at least $100.
So I send my husband out this afternoon with the $168 for the named non-owner policy, which I figured would be best to get BEFORE I called GEICO to 1)make sure they had taken him off the policy, 2) add my new car (that I need/have? to have collision on!because there's a LOAN involved) and 3) pay my premium.
Wherefore I am informed that I have been given FALSE INFORMATION BOTH TIMES I CALLED, and my husband cannot be removed from my policy, AND that I am NOT eligible, under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, for comprehensive/collision insurance.
WTF??
So now, I have a matter of HOURS to find either another insurance company entirely; or pay the premium. Or my coverage will be dropped, and I will be in BIG trouble.
I could take the premium money and get another policy. I was also informed (by GEICO) that in NC, I am allowed to get liability with one company, and collision/comprehensive with another. This....I am suspicious of, since they told me to go get my money back on the named non-owner insurance, since that policy only meant my husband was insured with two companies, GEICO and the one he paid today. They said being doubly insured like that was not exactly illegal, but a big problem, because if he got in a wreck the insurance companies and state would be hoplessly mired in an argument about who owed what. In other words, he would have liability insurance twice. Hope that made some sense.
P.S. I have an almost completely blemish-free driving record (knocks on wood); two parking lot bumps in the last 3 years - other than that, nothing.
WHAT. THE. FUCK.
