The bastards at Discover sent my 5 year old a credit card application!
Yes, my lucky 5 year old son was the proud recipient of a credit card offer from Discover. Good thing he couldn't read the offer letter or else he'd have been off charging up a storm at Toys R Us and Best Buy.

How'd they get his address? Probably from some kid magazine or website he subscribed to, which then like every other slimeball organization that sells their mailing lists to other companies handed over my son's name and address. Apparently Discover thinks he's a good candidate for a credit card despite being eleven years away from earning an income (other than from my wife and I for taking out the trash).

Have I mentioned how nauseated I am by credit card companies? And mortgage lenders. And banks. And refinance/credit consolidation pukes who prey upon financial misfortune. And - gee, I guess just about every large-scale corporation in this country that deals in money or the moving thereof.

Some might say it's not Discover's fault for not knowing the age of the person to whom they sent a credit card application. I say that's exactly why they can go to hell: indiscriminately sending this crap out to anyone, regardless of whether they might actually qualify or can be responsible for a credit card. Trying to mop up every last cent that's out there, regardless of whether it's ethical or even just plain common sense.

1. I recieve offers for my kid...but.........
Edited on Sun Jan-20-08 10:19 PM by Stuart G
the kid never was born..My ex wife entered some kinda thing when she was pregnant, and well, two months later, we lost the baby. Very sad. But every once in a while, for the last 18 years, I get something for a kid that doesn't exist. Lately, my offers have been for counseling on how to pay for college.
..Got divorced in 92, and this happened in 89. I asked the idiots to take my name off the list..well...still get this shit..

That is how they work.............assholes.........

2. dude fill it out and send it in
a person cannot enter in legally binding contract until 18 years old.....if they gave your son a credit card you could charge it up to the max and not be legally held to repay it

fuck em

4. It could have been worse
They could have sent him an actual credit card instead. Consider yourself lucky.

6. You might want to get a free credit report on his SS number - I've read where activity
might trigger a cc offer. Sure wouldn't hurt. A friend of mine had her identity stolen at 14 (40 now) and still having major problems with it.
