Oscars to go on ..... ARE THEY NUTS?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080121/ap_en_mo/oscar_nominations_7

This pisses me off. I'm all in support of the writers and support the actors for boycotting if the strike is still on. The Academy is out of their minds if they go on with the show.

Postpone the show until the strike is settled, damn it!

The Oscars are HUGE here in LA and they pump a ton of money into our local economy.

This is gay mens superbowl for the love of Judy!!

I feel like going down to the Academy's offices in Beverly Hills and scream "DON'T FUCK WITH ME FELLAS!".

3. This is bullshit
This is wrong on every single level. I, too, support the writers 100%.

This is nothing but pure greed. What the fuck are they thinking? A lot of stars aren't going to be attending...George Clooney, Brad Pitt, etc. A lot of actors have expressed their solidarity with the writers. And Jon Stewart was going to be the host...do they think that he'll be on stage? And shame on him if he does.

I was expecting that the Oscars telecast wouldn't go on...like the Golden Globes. I was ok for that...hell, it would be the first time in, what, 50 years, that there wouldn't be an Oscar telecast. I was ok with that...again, we have to support the writers. My dad was a union man...I know about strikes and strikers. We didn't cross that picket line. We respected the strikers and what they stood for.

As you said....postpone them until the strike is settled. Hell, they postponed the Oscars after 09/11. They could do it then.

As it stands now, if the Oscar telecast goes on while the writers are on strike, we should boycott that telecast. Fuck that shit. :grr:

7. I sure as hell won't watch.
And it sucks for the nominees. This a big moment for them and the Academy is going to piss it away.

The show used to be held in March and they moved it up. So it's not like they CAN'T delay it.

Jerks.

8. The Emmys were postponed after 9/11
not the Oscars.

But I agree, they should not go on during the strike. The show would be a farce, and a slap to the writers.

10. Twice the Emmy's were postponed.
The Oscars postponed once that I recall. It was the day Reagan was shot. They used to have them various days of the week and then moved to be on Sunday.

11. Are you sure?

Reagan was shot in the Spring (March 30th). I thought the Emmy's always occurred in early Fall.

Edit: I looked it up. The Emmys have been held all over the calendar, but in 1981, they were held in the Fall.
