Remind me again why socialized health care is a bad thing?
I have a really bad health insurance situation of late. I have been on COBRA for a year but technicalities made it so that I was paying for COBRA but not actually able to go to the doctor. I wasn't worried at first because back in November my company started the process of converting me from temp to perm and I figured in a few weeks, maybe a month I would have their not too bad health insurance.
Well here it is the end of January and the hiring process is STILL not done.

And I just had to put off an appointment with my hematologist for a chronic disorder yet again because I am not gonna be insured in 2 days. I'm supposed to see my doctor every 3 months...My last appointment was back in September...Thats what 4 months? Going on 5 since I rescheduled for end of February...I also am almost out of my bp meds and can't afford right now to really get them again.Plus my anxiety issues are out of control and probably need to be treated again.*Sigh*
Yeah, I got issues. About the only thing I seem to be able to do, is post to relieve the stess since I'm not on speaking terms with my family either...x( :-(

1. Socialised health care is bad because
the government has no business telling you what health care you can and can't have.

Quite why it is perfectly okay for the insurance company to tell you what health care you can and can't have escapes me.

I live in a country with socialised health care, myself.

4. Socialized health care would not be a bad thing if you had none to start with...

...in he military, we live under a socialized health system of sorts, and on the whole it's positive. Now, I always have the choice of using a private doctor if I so chose, but it does come with costs. Personally, I would rather have the Government telling me what health care I can and can't have than I would a for-profit insurance company. But, that's just me. As long as I have a choice, I'm good.

6. No, I agree.
I should have put the :sarcasm: smiley in.

I live with "socialised medicine." It works for me.

2. Even good insurance sucks.
In the last five years, I've been through cobra, private insurance, no insurance, and four different insurance policies (two companies) in the last three and a half years. All of them have different rules, regulations, and doctors.

What a freakin mess!

:grr:

5. and probably correspondingly more expensive...
with less coverage as well every year. Thats been my experience when I actually HAD coverage.
Any politician who doesn't think our health care system needs to be totally overhauled is a total dipshit!

7. That seems to be the way it works.
Though I was actually lucky this year, as we were able to move over to my wife's plan through the school system. Thanks to the city, they have very good plans and cover most of the premiums, though we still have the deductibles to deal with.

Something has to be done about the health care system in this country. BTw, have you seen that Howard County is trying to offer health care to those who don't have it or cannot afford it?

9. Kudos to Howard County!
I hadn't heard that. I'm surprised Montgomery County hasn't tried that..but then..we have a large budget deficit that they are trying to deal with so I'm afraid thats the priority at the moment

12. The democrats swept into office in Nov. 06, and that has
been one of the priorities of Ken Ulman. It's probably a year or two away from reality, but it would be a great start!

3. There is no perfect system, but
socialized health care is certainly better than what we have now.

11. heh.
The sad part of that is there is probably a segment of society today (say about 25-30% I would think) that actually believes that!

13. I ALWAYS use the term...
NATIONAL Healthcare, just for that reason.

It gives them one less thing to get riled up about.....

17. Of course there is a segment that believes that.
And to republicans and self-described conservatives and libertarians, socialism = communism = very bad.
