But there was a prison break and the lot is roaming around the neighborhood, they eat everything and anything. But they aren't a nuisance.

21. Nope, we really don't have any laws here

that I can think of :) In our downtown, it's legal to make a U-turn to get into our Reny's Department Store parking lot and it's legal to park in front of the only fire hydrant in town. We have no zoning so you can raise pigs next to the churches and schools and once when we stayed at the only hotel in town we were the only ones out of 20 units who weren't packing a fire arm during hunting season.

Thank you for posting! We used to have deer roaming all over our property when we lived in Virginia, but I have not seen a SINGLE deer since we moved to NCarolina. It is so bizarre. We live in the Smoky Mtns, and NO DEER. NOWHERE. For 3+ years. I miss their sweet faces.

I'm jealous of everyone who lives in the smokey mts./appalachians/blue ridge/whatnot. That's my big plan in life is to move to Western NC someday.
My mom lives in Waynesville and the last time I went there we drove up a huge hill and found two ELK :headbang:

34. yeah - there's an elk refuge now in/near Balsam Mountain,

which is not far from Waynesville. Big movement to bring them back to the area... nice to have them back!

I don't love this area - it is beautiful, but unless you're in Asheville (we're not) it can be very close-minded and fundie. The area where we previously lived in Virginia (where we want to return to) is just as lovely, and a little more 'civilized', I guess. Waynesville is OK, has a cool little downtown, and has the benefit of being close to Asheville. Sylva is also sorta OK, mostly because WCarolina U is nearby in Cullowhee -- but otherwise, meh. Beautiful, yes, Long-term livability, not so much.

The only reason I want to move there is to get away from people, and see the hills every day, with my goat and some pet chickens. I would totally avoid the locals, I've planned to build a moat. My husband thinks it's all a dumb fantasy :P
