"Totally unexpected--I got into a conversation with a cute girl in the elevator today. We share the same major, but NYU's a big school, so I'd never met her before. When we were about to part--again totally unexpected--we exchanged names and she was like "I'll find you and add you to Facebook." It was a TOTAL moment--the sort that doesn't usually happen to me very often.

Great! Except...

Now I can't remember her name.

This was only about 30-45 minutes ago, understand. I was so pumped, and I was like--I'll look her up, just in case she forgets...

But I can't remember it. The only name comes to mind is B******, and I'm pretty sure that wasn't it."

OK, so a lot of people wrote back--"Yeah, you are lame! ROFL! JK!" and "Don't worry, maybe she'll remember YOUR name." and "Don't worry, she's probably a Freeper. Hahahahaha!"

Well, I came back to my apartment tonight to find a Facebook message from--B******! (I got the name right after all!) A very attractive girl! 3 years younger, but a Grad Student like me--a fellow composer! And she's single and looking! And she describes her political views as....

..."Conservative"...

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Whaddya think? Should I let ideological differences stand in my way, or should I just say "fuck it, life's too short," and go for it?

4. Conservative may not mean conservative...

In other words, there is a certain type of what I would call "old school" Republicans who would describe themselves as conservative, and not mean the neo-conservatism currently sweeping the nation. Those "old school" Republicans believe in smaller federal government, more state's rights, lower taxes, fiscal responsibility, smaller governmental investment in social programs, and minding their own business. They are likely to be upper-middle class white people and they really don't have a good representative among the current crop of crazed religious zealots who are holding the Republican party hostage at the moment. So she might be one of those.

Or, she might say she's conservative because her parents are and she doesn't know shit about politics and hasn't ever really thought about it.

Or, she might actually be a neoconservative. In which case, run in the opposite direction because those people are batshit crazy.

Forget about politics! "Conservative" can mean a lot of things. Definitely "go for it", and let the chips fall where they may. After getting to know her, you will know what to do.
