Heath Ledger's father speaks
We, Heath's family, confirm, the very tragic, untimely and accidental passing of our dearly loved son, brother and doting father of Matilda. He was found peacefully asleep in his New York apartment by his housekeeper at 3:30 p.m. U.S. time.

We would like to thank our friends and everyone around the world for their well wishes and kind thoughts at this time. Heath has touched so many people on so many different levels during his short life but few had the pleasure of truly knowing him.

He was a down to earth, generous, kind-hearted, life-loving and selfless individual who was extremely inspirational to many. Please now respect our families need to grieve and come to terms with our loss privately.

1. I am lighting a candle for him and his family tonight
I am devastated by this, and I'm usually not one to bawl over celebrities.

I loved him as an actor in general, but Brokeback Mountain meant so much to so many people and he was so brave and wonderful in that role...

2. His life touched many
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 12:01 AM by LibraLiz1973
My heart breaks for his family, his daughter & Michelle. No matter why they broke up, I am sure she loved him. Knowing that the media will be all over her like a cheap suit
in this difficult time is painful to think about.

His two famous ex-girlfriends, Heather Graham & Naomi Watts, must also be heartbroken. Neither ever had a bad word to say about him.
I am sure that they also will be dealing with the press in their faces, asking ridiculous questions.

The life he lived, the people he loved, and the body of work he leaves behind are quite a legacy.

RIP Heath.

8. the press is absolutely disgusting
I keep hearing about Americans' so-called "endless appetite for sensationalism" but everyone I know is appalled by it

when someone so young passes away. Sending prayers to his family and friends. They are going to need a lot of strength to deal with this.
