I saw Matewan for the first time last night.

Actually, I didn't see it all, just the last hour +, starting when the two company guys demanded the miners replay their recent purchases bought with company script.

Awesome movie. And it didnt' surprise me to see Chris Cooper and other good liberal actors in the film. it did surprise me that it was 21 years old. I'm almost fifty, but I didn't "get it" until about 1986 or so when I was in my late twenties.

I love that movie.

There's a particular scene in which one of the ethnicities in the striker's camp begin to play a cultural piece of music, and are then joined in by the two other dominant ethnicities who each add their own twist to the original. Gets me every time...

I saw it back when it came out (I was living in West Virginia at the time) and haven't seen it since.

That's the problem with DU - I'm always being forced to watched movies, read books, and buy CD's because of recommendations I get here. Darned place is costing me a fortune!
