Colbert rocks the strike.
The (A) Daily Show group]
I haven't used Comedy Central's online video site recently, that being at the heart of the WGA strike, but Stephen Colbert astonished me. In this series of videos from the night before last, he turns a surprising family connection into a civil rights mini-documentary, a great interview, and finally a moving tribute to the striking writers and a plea for reason. He doesn't even try to stay in character through much of it.

1. It really was a superb show
And it's even more poignant when you remember that his dad and a brother died in a plane crash in the early 70s.

When he says to Andrew Young "Tell me about my Dad...."

I hope he gets a Peabody for that episode.

3. That was great -- "It's all about me."
He's so funny.

No offense to his writers, who are great, but I've actually been enjoying these post-strike Colbert Reports because they are a nice change from the regular show, which is also great. Stephen is so versatile and it's fun to see different sides of him.

5. That segment caught my attention as well.
Youngsters might be interested to know that nightly newscasts once really looked and sounded just like that segment. Lots of facts, footage and straight reporting.
