Somebody tried to steal my coupons right out of my cart
I'm a fairly serious coupon clipper/shopper, pouring over sale ads to match discounts with coupons to get the best bang for our buck.

I usually put my coupon book and list in the kid's seat, organizing as I go, with the coupons I'm using on top.

Well, today I had a halfway full car, with my cloth bags and gloves in the kid's seat. I had walked away from the cart because the weekday afternoons are full of old people going too slow.

Anyway, I get back to my cart and there's this woman thumbing through the coupons in my cart, actually touching them. I swear she was ready to lift some.

"Excuse me!" I say to her. "Just what do you think you're doing?"

She made up some B.S. story that she thought the cart was left by a demo person (It had a wide array of items in it.) and that coupons were being distributed. Her husband was standing right there and she says, "Oh look, I was wrong. This cart belongs to her." He looked like he wanted to bolt any minute.

The thing was she was a well-dressed, nice looking middle-aged woman -- not anyone you would mistake for a coupon thief. People never cease to amaze me.

I'm always most wary of the well-dressed, nice looking middle-aged women. :scared:

:D

I'm glad you didn't get your coupons clipped. :hi:

2. All your coupons are belong to us!
lol!

on a serious note... it MUST be getting bad out there if people are resorting to lifting coupons from other people's carts. :(

3. Well, I know the economy
is why I've become way more vigilant in shopping for bargains.

Even when things pick up, I'm going to keep it up since I've seen how much it saves. We can sock that away for retirement or some nice vacations.

But, I still wouldn't swipe someone else's coupons.

5. The measure of a person is not what they do
it is what they do when they think no one else is looking.

6. Stuff like this drives me crazy - I hate to leave my cart b/c my purse
is in my cart (and Mr. Debi and Debi, Jr. lose all their ability to pay attention when we enter the grocery store). If I do have to leave my cart and I ask them to WATCH MY PURSE they inevitably find something shiny to distract them and leave the cart and my purse (and my coupon wallet) all alone for someone swipe. x(

8. No my purse stays with me
It's a small one that holds just a little wallet, phone, lip balm and asthma inhaler -- all the necessities of life.

I stopped taking my husband to the store because he always puts extra stuff in the cart when I'm not looking. LOL

10. It counts as 'quality family time' for us
(Okay, I'm joking about that).

It's the only way for everybody to get what they want from the store w/out me being there with three separate lists (and inevitably forgetting something x().

I should just take my purse w/me - less stress then, huh?! :hi:

7. LOL
the ad at the bottom of the page is for penny pincher coupons. it's weird to know the computer god is reading your posts and trying to sell to you.

they can save money, but too often they're for things we don't use anyway. I like the ones that come with your receipt from the pharmacy that give you $10 off on your next purchase over x amt. that's when I go stock up.

9. It is weird how they do that
but I guess that's why the guys at Google are worth millions.

I only use coupons for stuff we already use and I started a little pantry in the basement to stock up when things are on sale and we have multiple coupons. It took some time to get started, but I'm spending a lot less than before and we could survive for quite some time on what we have stored up. If money's tight a week or two, I just don't shop and no one feels at all hungry or deprived.

12. good idea
I used to have a decent pantry reserve for snow storms, etc. but now I'm down to about four gallons of water that are not for drinking b/c they've been there for so long...

but for canned goods, thats a great idea.

Progresso soups don't need water and my son actually likes them. One thing someone told me that I hadn't thought about.. if you have some sort of emergency and have no access to food, water, etc. for a while, make sure you have some big sturdy trashbags b/c you need a way to deal with the... chamber pot.

thanks for bringing that up.

how's the job thing going?

11. There is an old Vulcan proverb: "Better coupon than cash-filled wallet."
Or the Chinese proverb: "Better coupon than credit card-filled wallet."
