What is wrong with strip malls!?!
So this new strip mall opened where I live.

Now I view each strip mall under construction as kind of the presents under the Christmas tree. I'm dying to see what they are (and in the case of strip malls...what the stores are going to be).

Anyway, the place just opened up.

NAILS. GROAN How many nail salons does a community need?

FAMILY DENTIST CENTER. GROAN I have a dentist. :eyes:

TANNING. GROAN It's California. Hello.

DRY CLEANING. GROAN What, do we have about 30 dry cleaners now around here?

SAFEWAY. Okay, that's cool.

SUBWAY. Okay, sandwich place. Whatever.

BANK OF AMERICA. GROAN That's not my bank.

KIDS CLOTHING. GROAN

T-MOBILE. GROAN I have AT&T Wireless.

A few stores are still empty.

I don't even know what which stores I wanted because there's pretty much everything where I live.

But still, I feel as though I got coal in my strip mall expectation stocking. x(

1. theres one on Bruceville road that actually has 2 nail places with a store in between them
i think it's a mobile phone place. There must be at least 50 nail places in Elk Grove and they all smell like toxic waste dumps inside.

Maybe it goes further south, especially in the rural communities.

19. In Fayetteville, even some of the guys get their nails done
I'm not one of them--about once a week I scrape the grease and ink out from under them and call it good--but Fayetteville is full of nail salons, they're all busy and if you pass five nail salons, you'll find one with a guy in the chair.

25. And the thing is, there are SO MANY so close to
each other.

There must be some "me make you feel good long time" going on the back of the stores, because I don't understand how so many stay open.

Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 12:18 PM by Akoto
My mom worked as a hairdresser at a salon a couple of years back, and they had a woman who rented a spot in the shop to do nails. Many of the customers would take advantage of her services, particularly those working in really upscale, professional environments.

Of course I am in Irvine, land of "little villages" complete with strip malls that are called "town centers"

22. You're missing a Chinese restaurant and...
...some sort of whacky health-foody place that'll go out of business before the paint is dry on the sign. Alternatively, you could end up with a martial arts dojo, run by a shifty guy whose only credentials are that he once met Chuck Norris's auto detailer.

a check-cashing operation moves into the local strip mall. It's all downhill from there.

33. We've had some of those palm-reading places for years...
They often "renovate" their business establishments by putting a new facade on the dilapidated building they occupy. Still, it seems like the check cashing places invite trouble. Pawn shops seem to have the same effect.

34. I just keep hoping that someone will put a Borders or B&N...
...in some strip mall near my house, but to no avail. Do you realize that the nearest decent bookstore (i.e. not a fundie "Christian Supply" with lots of volumes about taking the Bible literally, saving America from the Homosexual Agenda, and coaching women in how to be "helpmates" to their husband) is a half-hour drive away? :grr:
