Extreme Geekout: 65" LCD TV
I'm in Technolust and seriously wondering if my wall is big enough:

Sharp Aquos LC65D64U 65" 1080p LCD HDTV

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000W4RWEQ?ie=UTF8&tag=hdtvsreview-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000W4RWEQ

Anybody else have a giant TV?

1. Wow! That thing is HUGH!
We have a 42 (maybe 47?) inch one. I got it for the kids for Christmas. A Sony. Paid $780 for it. Not a bad deal.

2. That may be what I go with.
the more normal size.

The wall I want to put the TV on, is 12 ft W and no windows, but I really want a window there (no way to look out onto the front yard from the living room) So I don't know if it will accomodate that size of a TV and a window too.

But I keep dreaming about Giant Johnny Depp and Sean Bean.

3. Get the TV and a Video Camera
Then when your not watching TV. You can play the video feed from outside. Would look just like a 65" window.

4. I have to tell you, once we got it configured with the HD input from the cable
I couldn't believe how beautiful the picture was. My son was in heaven for the Giants/Packers game, but for watching movies, I felt like I was in the theatre. Gorgeous picture, fantastic sound.

You'll enjoy it. I don't get to the movies, so if it's something I want to see, I wait until it comes out on DVD and this is a nice experience.

7. Similar here
I'm deciding I enjoy movies more than anything. Sitcoms are OK, but too many annoying commercials in a 30 minute program.

Glad you enjoy yours. Is the HD programming on cable very much more expenive than the regular feed?

10. I don't think so. We got a free three months with ours.
And, with comcast in this area if you call them and threaten to switch to Verizon, they will work with you on the price. I would think that the provider you have would do the same.

I got the comcast triple play for $99 a month for two years. Digital cable, internet and phone. Previously, I was paying $100 for the internet and the television and another $100 or so to Verizon. It's a great deal in my book.

6. Yeah, well MY 13" tv has a built in VCR and Color!
:P

Honestly, around my house it's the computing and sound equipment we spend our money on. Our TV has a purple patch in the lower right corner and we LIKE it that way!

:D

:D

I have two TVs (13 inch and a 19 inch) and they are both from the mid-80s. I've got a home theatre, however, that is only 3 years old.

12. lol I think my subconscious is telling me something...
when I clicked on show me the price which I suppose is pretty good for a TV that big, instead of clicking on the "close" button, I clicked on the "add to cart" button. It was purely by accident but I have to wonder...

16. I just got the 42" D64 Aquos this weekend
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 04:17 PM by Chovexani
And it's AWESOME. Gorgeous picture, zero motion blur or jaggies, even when playing fast paced console games. Blacks are amazingly deep for an LCD, and rivals those of plasmas. I've got cheap $10 rabbit ears until the DirecTV guys come to install my dish, and the OTA HD channels are breathtakingly clear.

I highly recommend any Aquos set.

29. My year-old 42" Aquos doesn't have the same black levels
but it's still an awesome TV! Now if only the TV producers and studios would suck it up and settle this strike in a fair way for the writers and get some of my favorite shows back on, I would be even happier.

Holy shit. My daughter bought a 42" HD Aquos on Black Friday, all I can say is, it's an awesome TV, I can't imagine that in 65"

I don't even want to know how much this sucker costs!!

19. Onl 32", which doubles as a monitor on occasion.
Trying to cull the TV in favor of photo work. I'll miss the Doctor, Nell, Mork, Barclay, Data, and the rest, but oh well...

What do you project onto? The wall? a screen?

I was wondering about possibly putting theatre black on the wall to give it true black.

edit: doesn't the bulb have a short life?

27. I just project onto the wall
The bulbs can last from 2000-3000 hours depending on the model, etc. True that replacements are expensive, $250-300, but for the convenience, I really like it.

It's an instant home movie theater. And portable.

30. That seems too high a price.
I have the same Sharp LCD in a 26" that I bought 2 years ago for less than 800 bucks. This is less than 3 times the size, but way more than 3 times the cost.

32. The picture quality is great. There is no comparison
between it and another non-LCD modular set that I have. I wish I had it for the Super Bowl Sunday.

33. I've looked at a lot of them
in the stores, and I keep coming back to the Sharp Aquos line. It's so obvious when you look at it in relation to other sets like the panasonic or the the visio, or any of those others. Only the Phillips models are comparable in picture quality, IMO.
