How can I find a literary agent who handles plays?

I'm an unpublished playwright and have been sending my plays all around the country for over a year with no success.

Mostly the theaters don't respond at all. I feel having an agent would help open doors for me as many theaters will no longer accept work from individual playwrights - only agents.

Its very discouraging as my plays are very funny, dark political works and, as a result, are extremely timely.

One serious one, a play within a play, is set during the Viet Nam war.

The others are satirical skewering of modern politics and politicians.

3. reputable agents like publishers no longer read unsolicited work

you need to get acceptance into a respected workshop or master of fine arts program so that you can make the right contacts and get personal references that will lead you to the right agent, theater, and/or publisher

don't wait 30 years to get into a program and start getting attention, as one of my friends did, yes, she is enjoying success now, but she sure lost a lot of time
