Rip roaring ice/wind storm here!
Yikes! I think I may lose some trees with this. The wind is roaring. BUT, I've got the dogs, plenty of food, scotch and cigs and the emergency generator...and I don't have to be anywhere until Monday.

1. just make sure the generator is outdoors
This might seem blindingly obvious to most people with functioning brains, but apparently it's not.

:)

4. Mine is outside next to the garage...
it is a serious generator that can run the whole house and comes on automatically if the electricity is off for 3 seconds. It tests itself every two weeks and there is a control panel in the garage that tells me how its doing. It has a little engine about the size of a car engine and runs on propane. It was one of those things that I almost didn't purchase and then did and I am so glad. I'm in the woods and when power goes out it can last for a few days...not a good thing in the middle of the winter.

Are you telling me that people have asphyxiated themselves by running an IC engine indoors? :wtf:

9. I suppose these are the same sorts of people
who at Thanksgiving literally drop a whole turkey in a big pan of hot oil and burn their house down.

10. You give me too much credit! It was my electrician who said...
no, you can't put that in the garage! What did I know? Seriously, I wonder how many of the people who get into trouble with this are desperate for heat and light.

13. I'm glad you were joking
cause I read that and thought... huh? Do I have that all wrong?

and while I'm here-

Ms Raven-

I want to tell you I loved the story your son told. It made me cry. I wish I were as much of a fireball as you. But since I'm not, I'm glad you're on this earth.

:toast:

3. Ice storm now in Upstate NY.
I have no food, no booze, and 3 cigarettes left.

I'm going to have to go out at some point.

11. You guys must be getting what passed through here last night in NC Mtns
I just spent 2-3 hours clearing the 3/4 - 1 mile drive out to the main road. It was fun as hell ballhootin on the 4-wheeler dragging brush and trees bonzai style back into the woods.

Now people can visit and the lady further up the drive can get out if need be.

Fortunate for us the winds were tame after about 2am.

My coffee tastes so much better than usual, and I'm all post-showered and in a towel. That was the most work I've done in years. I need a nap lol. Good Times.

:hi:

12. If its the same storm we had,
it dumped about a foot of snow here. And we still have an advisory for more this afternoon.
