Question about filing income taxes.....
my college student daughter has W2s showing she made $2992 last year. She a little upset because if we get this "rebate" she will miss out because of $8. She did make $50 working as a mascot for a minor league baseball team, but because it was a one time deal no W2. How can she go about claiming this on her taxes, (she usually files 1040EZ because she's single no dependents etc.) so if need be she will have made the $3000 cut off for this rebate. (She needs a new computer for school and sees this as the only way she'll get it)Thanks for any and all help.

1. If you provided the majority of her support financially for the year
claim her as a dependent, and walk away with some bucks to share.

4. as long as you provided over 50% of her support
i did a friends return a few years ago and she claimed her deadbeat boyfriend as a dependent because they lived together and he made no money due to being a frickin lazy bastard.

6. you would claim her on your regular form
i just looked up the rule on dependants and you can claim her as long as she is a student and under the age of 24 as of the end of the year.

2. if she really wants to claim the 50 dollars
what she can do is claim the 50 dollars as self employment income. she would have to file a 1040 and do the schedule c-ez.
