One hour phone call with my home sick college freshman

Poor thing.
Most people go home on the weekend including her roommate and she is left all alone. I booked her spring break flight home and another so she is home for her boyfriends birthday to make her feel better.

Anyone in Boston want to adopt her for the rest of the school year?

I don't know about your religious affiliation but Boston is the headquarters of the UU church, which is a very Liberal faith. She would undoubtedly find a welcoming place there.

5. Tried to get her to go to the Jewish group at school

or Anime club or something but not much luck.
She's so shy its hard for her to go somewhere on her own.

10. Gee, she needs to learn to socialize on her own, or she'll be in REAL

trouble after college. It's hard enough for people who HAVE been social to land in a first job where there are no other people their own age.

Tell her to find out what the students she eats dinner with or has a class work/discussion group with are doing over the weekend. College students are usually pretty amenable to having extra people tag along with them. In my observation, they tend to go to movies and concerts in herds.

For example, if a couple of her acquaintances say, "Let's go see (Name of Movie) tonight," she should ask if she can go along. If they're not a dating couple, they'll probably say yes.

She has a lot of classes where they need to socialize, sewing and using other students as models.

I could take her home w/ me on the weekend. Home cooking. She'd have to sleep on an air mattress.

he hasn't had any money to spend on tickets or anything because he has been out of work.

That's in my neck of the woods though.
