Gah! There goes a quiet Saturday...
just looked out my kitchen window and was nearly startled into a stupor - right next door, about 10 feet from my house, is an enormous inflatable kiddy-slide. This can only mean: Birthday Party! For the 5-year old neighbor kid.

This thing is HUGE! Taller than my house. Sigh.

The only good news is it looks like rain.

6. aww
despite my crusty exterior, now I feel sorta sorry for the kid. He's really cute and I'd hate to see his birthday party ruined.

8. It seems to have started. It's overcast, but no rain or wind yet
and they're not being too loud. They're enjoying the inflatable behemoth.

9. I hope they have fun while they can. It's started raining up here in Scotts Valley
I remember those giant jumpy houses. I've been there. We did that one year for my daughter's 5th or 6th b'day.

11. uh oh... then it'll be raining here soon
they said the weather was coming from the North.

Luckily, the kids have had a chance to play on the slide, and I guess they can move it inside if the rain comes. There aren't too many kids - I think he's 5. Those parties usually aren't huge. it was real nice of his Mom to get that slide for him - I know they're not made of money and it was real sweet of her.

10. The good news here is it looks like my annoying neighbors are moving today
Why the moving truck hasn't gotten here until 4:30 is beyond me.

12. Ah, come on. Just relax and enjoy it. Just my opinion: I generally hate noise,
and can't even have a radio on when I'm working, but kids-having-fun noise has always struck me as "happy noise," so I've never minded it.

What would bother me, were I in your place, would be the constant chorus of "Johnny, be careful!" and "Susie, be careful!" from the parents. Shut up and let the kids have some fun!

That's why, whenever we have an outdoor party here, we always get a drink or two into the parents before we feed them. It relaxes them enough so they leave the kids alone...

15. Kids are great at five years old. Other ages as well, but there's NOTHING like
a 5-year-old on Christmas morning. Or when a kid that age explains his or her views of the universe, and everything in it, as profoundly and solemnly as they do.
