What are your favorite smells?
I really like calgon pear caramel bodyspreay. I know people probably shouldn't smell like food. - but I actually really enjoy smelling like banoffee pie.

Also, I love the smell of wine. Also, herbs like rosemary and mint.

1. I love the smell of coffee, rain hitting the pavement,
light musk, Clinique Aromatics Elixhir, kitty's forehead when she's been soaking up sun, faint traces of gasoline on a person's clothes, croissants baking.

18. I don't know why, but tires kind of freak me out, the smell, I mean.
It could have something to do with when I hiked up Mont Martre in Paris, and hiked down the WRONG SIDE afterward. On one side (Left Bank) it was all croissants and baguettes and bicycles and poodles, on the other, it was all tire stores and gas stations and carpet retailers.

See? It's just me.:)

6. I like coffee, cinnamon,
cedar, and the smell of chlorine - bleach, pool chlorine, I just really like them, likely due to scent memory from all the time I spent at the pool as a kid. I also like the smell of many sunblocks (NOT the coconut scented ones) for the same reason.

57. It *is* genetic
Certain people - called "supertasters" - react badly to tastes/smells that other people find pleasant. Foods that we find mildly spicy are unbearably hot to them. Stuff that we perceive as pleasantly astringent is revoltingly bitter to them.

Fascinating article on the subject here:

with green and red peppers and pimentos. Ir really blows my mind to see someone eating a green onion fresh after it's been cut.

There must be something akin to each of these things but I don't know what it is.

Coffee - although I can't stand the taste. Inhaling coffee aroma is good for you, though. The flavonoids are airborne and you can get the benefit from inhaling.

Frying bacon.

Someone peeling an orange.

New-mown grass.

An Evergreen forest -- I call it "green air".

Woodsmoke.

Lilacs.

The heavy negative ion smell of air in a rainstorm.

Honeysuckle in bloom.

Fall "rot" in a forest.

A slightly sweaty man in a flannel shirt. OMG.

And an odd one (there are some of us out there who like this...but NOT up close and personal) Skunk.

52. I can't think of any odors that I really like. Most I just tolerate.
The smell of a corn field after the farmer has sprayed pig shit on it, my dog after irritating a skunk, or on open bottle of lavender, it's all the same to me. My GF knows that if she has used any perfumed products recently to just call, don't stop by.

I literally can't sleep if there is a bar of Irish Spring soap in the house, or if my bed linen has been stored in a wooden drawer for any length of time. I ripped the cedar panels out of my closet days after moving in because I couldn't stand the smell on my clothes. Some people use dryer sheets to keep deer out of their garden, that's fine, just don't bring them inside.

If you've been in a Pier I Imports in the last few hours kindly stay downwind. And if I ever run into the jerk that decided that scented candles was a good idea...

Regards, Mugu

59. Fresh fruit
Not the revoltingly sweet "fruit" scents they seem to add to every cosmetic and household product these days, but real apples, cantaloupes, peaches, strawberries. Can anyone remember how wonderful Winesap apples used to smell? I haven't seen them in the supermarket in years.

Sandalwood, roses and violets.

Woodsmoke in autumn.

Garlic, basil and rosemary. Ginger and lemongrass. A good garam masala.

Fresh bread, particularly sour dough and onion rye.

I think I must have been a dog in a previous life.

75. The smell of ionized air
after a lightening storm.
Fresh cut grass, the smell
of fat lighter wood, honeysuckle,
bacon frying, and for the hippie
in me, patchouli and sandalwood.
Last but not least, the smell of
sweet herbage, maryjane.
