My new excuse for everything: I swim
I'm late for work because I swim.
I don't have time to clean the house because I swim.
There's no more towels because I swim.
I can help myself to another piece of pie because I swim.
I'm too tired because I swim.
I can't go out late because I swim.
My hair is wet and I smell of chlorine because I swim.
I have a nice layer of subcutaneous fat because I swim.
I really need to buy another swimsuit because I swim.
I keep fins in my car because I swim.
I'm not paying as much attention to politics because I swim.
I'm clearly insane because I swim.

25. LMAO
I'll admit that that kind of 'perky' was not my first thought, and I was going to ask you wth you were talking about...

Yeah, smiling on command is something I spent lots of years doing, whether for theater, synchro, choir, what have you... I think eventually it just sticks, lol.

I cannot believe Wikipedia doesn't have a disambigulation page for the "other" explanation.

13. Right on. I took a break for 8 weeks or so
but I'm back at it since mid-Jan. Just had my picture taken for my new job and I'm horrified by my hair. Seven different colors, including coppery-green.

The worst, for me, even at only 3 times a week x 2 to 2.4 K--way down from before--is the dry skin blues here in Midwest winter time.

Glad to hear you are still at it. Triceps rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

17. Oooh itchy scratchy dry skin
Man one day last week it was driving me so nuts I wanted to yank my shirt off and rub against the nearest tree trunk. But that would've caused quite a stir at the office.

Mixing a little bit of Corticool or other hydrocortisone itch cream with your regular moisturizer might help.

That's good stuff, right after you get out of the shower, as long as you're willing to wait awhile for it to soak in...

you sound very healthy to me.

28. 3000-5000 yards a day for me
Insanity is the only word to describe it.

I also coached for four years, so I attempted to pass my insanity on to the next generation of swimmers.

32. Wow!
Impressive!

You are a wiley one, attempting to rope innocent little children into the sport. It all starts so sweetly enough...the little ones are having so much fun splashing in the water...then the coaches get their hands on them and they're winning NCAA titles and going to the Olympics. It's evil, I tell you.

31. I was doing 10,000/week until rotator cuff a few years back...
am going to wander over to World Wide Aquatics and get a new speedo and some new goggles and give it another try. Last spring it still hurt, so have waited another year. I always thought my knees would give out and I could do Master's for ever. The reality is the knees DID give out and the shoulder too. I'm a frickin elliptical hamster, grinding away for food pellets.
