3. Try using SuperDuper!...
I takes about two hours to back up 70Gigs. And that is with a Firewire drive. It is just slow to copy 300,000 files that are under 100k.

I've been backing up 90G to a 7200rpm drive for over 4 hours now. This better get a lot faster.

6. Yeah.. The initial back-up is slow. Just like when Spotlight indexes for the first time.
Once it is finished you will barely notice it.

7. I think I need to do some cleanup before Leopard!
I have two 500Gb drives raided together as my primary drive, and have only about 185Gb free right now.
