I found $11,000 for my sister in law!
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 03:48 AM by Contrary1
Every now and then, I check out the unclaimed property department at the Attorney General website here in Indiana.
My sister in law had no idea there was $11,000+ in dividends from an old insurance policy. :wow:
Couldn't have come at a better time, since their youngest just started college.

I found $200. for myself a few years ago that was turned over from an old insurance policy my mother bought who knows when. Also, my uncle was able to claim several hundred on an old policy my grandmother purchased way back in 1934.

Check under maiden names too. Who knows? Maybe there is something waiting for you.

2. In your state it is under the State Treasurer's office...

I hope there's a nice find for you too!

Anyone else interested can find out by googling your state name + "unclaimed property".

6. Oh dear.. you've stirred the hive
LoL...

I found several hits (10+) on my dad with the address to my childhood home. He passed 14 years ago. He was in his second marriage since he lived at that address. Noone likes each other enough to talk rational about any of this. Weeee...

I think I'll just sit on this info 'til it hatches :D

:hi:

7. www.missingmoney.com
will search all states.

I check it every now and then. The only person I know that I find under my last name is my ex-husband, and I am sure not telling him, even if I knew where the hell he is !

8. You may still want to check it out at a local level...
My brother's name doesn't show up when I search through this site, but I know he has a small amount here in Indiana that he hasn't cashed in on.

I should have stated this in my OP, but never pay anyone to do this for you. The forms involved are not that complicated, and my sil got her check in less than two weeks.

10. missing money has the links to check your state
at a state level, too. Since I have lived in so many places, I started there, and checked each one individually. Still nothing.

9. I found $7500 for my mom and her sisters...
My grandparents had a savings account that no one knew about when they died. I looked them up in their state, and sure enough, $7500 smackers just waiting to be claimed.
