My ad campaign won an award!!!!
I'm SO excited! I don't know the category yet but it won an award - I got an e-mail from my agency rep tonight! They did the campaign but it was my concept. I took a little heat for it because it was kind of unconventional but....it worked. Yay!

7. No....we are not big time enough for a Clio
But it's a regional award. And a lot of people fought me on it which makes it all the sweeter.

9. Double toast, then!
:toast:

:toast:

For fighting the good fight, and being gracious when you're right.

For a little while. Till you have the trinket. Sitting in your office.

20. Clios were totally devalued in the 90s
The owner and noted emcee of the event, Bill Evans, disappeared a lot of the money via a parade of cocaine couriers and rent boys through the doors of his NYC town house. When Evans failed to show up the night of the 1991 awards show, the caterer took the stage to distribute the awards. Eventually the show just stopped, and then came the most shocking part: a number of adholes - er, executives went up on stage and just started taking the statues. Just grabbed them and walked off with them. And it's my understanding that those who didn't were kicking themselves because they didn't think to do it first.

www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,973271,00.html

After that Ruth Ratny, the Hedda Hopper of Chicago advertising, got together with a few others and bought the awards, but nobody wanted to enter. Nobody wanted a Clio after that. For a long time if someone said they won a Clio, someone else would be quick to ask, "When?" The response was always "Pre-ninety" but who knew? People lie about their awards all the time. There are so many shows that you can't keep track.

The Clios have been owned for about ten years by the outfit that publishes Brandweek, a good rag. I think the taint has dissipated, and really you want to judge a show as much by its jury as by its legacy.

A regional show is nothing to sneeze at - they can be very hard to win, like the Addys. So competitive. As someone with firsthand understanding of what you went through between concept and execution, I am very pleased to offer you my congratulations on winning the honor you deserve.

23. Damn!!!!
Now I'm jealous. I hope knowing that makes you happy, because really, it should. :) Winning an Addy is a great accomplishment! Everyone knows how hard they are to win - I would take one over a Clio any day.

I haven't done too badly with awards *coughcanneslionscough* but I have never won an Addy and it irks me. Congrats again, and have a great time at the show!

4. Good God, no
My ad campaign does NOT have unidentified rodents playing stringed instruments.

I can't post any pictures until tomorrow because they're stored in my work computer. But...yay!

15. It wasn't for the Olive Garden, was it?
"The Olive Garden - it sucks less than TGI Fridays"

That would appeal to me.

25. No, I'm a marketing and development director
At a public radio station. Our ad agency, Perich and Partners in Ann Arbor, actually designed the campaign and won the award. The concept was my idea, the work was theirs.
