Advantages of not drinking
I haven't had a drink since Christmas. I had fallen into the habit of drinking every day for a long time. Drinking a lot. I took the AA Twenty Questions and answered no to every one so I guess I was a functioning alcoholic. I probably should have seeked medical attention before quitting as a friend of mine did. I didn't, but I'm still here. I had some strange dizziness/vertigo for a few days but that was about it. I looked into AA but they are really hung up on the invisible sky god thing. I have a couple of people who went that route and they are kinda serving as my sponsors.

Anyway, advantages of not drinking:
- Can't get a DUI (which I've never had)
- I'm sleeping awesome these days
- No hangovers
- Saving lots of money - drinking is especially expensive in this state.

2. Thanks
It wasn't even a planned thing. I just decided I was tired of it.

12. Congrats to you both!
I will be clean and sober for 14 years on March 16th. I was going to quit after St. Patrick's day but didn't see any reason to keep going. I think one of the other BIG advantages of not drinking is knowing that the decisions that you make are not clouded by alcohol. Keep up the good work!:yourock:

8. Congratulations!
I feel great when I have a drink but the next day my mood and energy level are depressed. What about you?
I still have a drink a week or so. I really should quit for all the reasons you gave plus mood improvement.

11. My problem is that I wanted more than one drink
I wanted the whole fucking bottle.

Not saying I won't ever touch the stuff again. Just not tomorrow.

9. I know AA is not for everyone - I am glad you are finding something workable.
I have been sober for 23 years. It freaks me out to read a wine list and find out how much they get for a glass of "cheap" wine.

13. Actually AA doesn't demand that you believe in a sky god
or any other god

just some "power" (be it the group, or whatever) that can help you stay sober 24 hours

Congrats though, the not drinking is the most important thing you've said

don't want to come off preachy, just making an observation

14. I know
A "higher power." Still a stumbling block for a realist.
