My older boy moved out tonight...
He's taken a room in a house nearby. I have been SO ready for him to start stretching his wings. Still, he's my baby, and it's weird to have him not here.

My youngest is a little down, especially since his big bro took his X-Box with him. :eyes: But I promised him we'd redecorate his room; so he's pretty excited about that.

I have a feeling my oldest will move back in eventually; but first he needs to figure some stuff out...

1. My dear GoddessOfGuinness!
How old is he?

It is strange to have them go, isn't it?

But when it's time, it's time...

2. He's 20...
He'll be 21 in July.

It's definitely time for him AND for me. He knows he's always welcome back if things don't work out as he plans. I have a feeling in the next year or so, after the novelty wears off, he'll start recognizing those little things we tried to tell him, but he was too stubborn to hear. Of course, he may not admit it; but I don't really care, as long as he grows up. :D

6. He's a smart kid...
And in some ways he's more mature than I was at his age.

He'll figure things out. :D

4. Ugh, I know How You Feel
Mine is 19 and I vacillate between wanting him to go and feeling that he is far to young and unprepared to go. It is a scary world out there but adult kids living at home can be scary too.

5. I feel like this is a really good situation for him...
We know his landlord, he's got a physical lease that he's signed, his rent is exceptionally reasonable. And he's very close by.

He felt cramped here. His room was small. And he wanted to bring girlfriends over to spend the night, which I was just not comfortable with.

He'll find he has a different set of sacrifices to make, but ultimately, I think it will be a wonderful experience for him.

17. If it weren't for this damn stupid illegal war...
I'd have recommended that he go into the military a long time ago. It'd probably be perfect for him, and I think he'd serve his country well. But not when troops are being misused as they are now. :(

12. You should help him shop for food.
He's gonna need eggs, bread, lunchmeat, cheese, and milk.

16. For some things...
He could make egg-drop soup, or poached eggs using the microwave. If he was feeling industrious, he could even bake himself a cake.

15. I already bought him a bunch of stuff...
He's got enough food for about a month. And I've taught him everything I know about living on a bare-bones budget. I told him to buy items that are on special, and use coupons whenever possible.

He has a full-size refrigerator; but only a microwave and a crock pot to cook in. Still there's plenty he can do with those. And I'll be passing leftover spaghetti to him whenever he comes over. :D
