Oh geez, the fundies are outside my grocery store spreading fear.
I live in Montgomery County, MD one of the most progressive counties in the country. They are trying to pass a bill that makes it legal for transgendered people to use the bathroom of their chosen gender (ie cross dressing men using the women's room).
But they HATE this bill..They are saying it takes away the privacy of all girls in the locker rooms and bathrooms.!!!1111!!!!Why don't they just say "RAPE RAPE!" and get it over with.
This is stupid. One, if you are a man aren't you going to be more ummm uncomfortable by seeing someone in a dress in the bathroom.
Two, bathrooms have STALLS for privacy. Do these idiots think transgendered people have x-ray vision?
Three we have a hell of a lot more important issues to worry about in this county than this bs.
At least they aren't aggressive (I guess that's how they got permission to set up..don't harrass the shoppers).
I wanted to say a rude word but I didn't. I didn't acknowledge their existance, which I know they can't stand.
On the plus side, didn't seem like they were getting alot of interest...

2. They call themselves
"The concerned citizens of Montgomery County" but they get funding from James Dobson's group . They are trying to be sneaky about their funding, fundies are NOT popular here.

4. Were they actually on store property?
If they were, I would have gone in to see the manager and let him or her know that you weren't pleased with the fundie's presence. If you got no satisfaction there, it would be the corporate office I would contact next.

6. Well they were under the guise of petition drive for a local council law
So I imagine, that the company okayed it the same way they okay Salvation Army bell ringers, Girl Scout Cookie sellers etc.
I knew they were fundies though, cause I'm familiar with this particular issue.
They were very unagressive though as I said, so I think they were told NOT to bother those who walk by them, which isn't always the case when the company allows someone to set up shop there.

(I'm referring to the protestors, not to you, of course.)

8. Well
I would have thought that allowing cross-dressing men to use the female bathroom probably would be a violation of the womens' privacy, but I am guessing that's not actually what it meant. Transgendered means someone who has had their gender altered, no?

10. I think in this case its both.
There are definitely men living as women that most people would never know, even if they haven't yet had the surgery.
I honestly don't have a problem with it. Somehow I don't think that someone who is living as a woman is going to want to leer at women, just like women living as men aren't going to leer at men.
They might have a teeny-tiny point somewhere, but they've blown the whole issue WAAAY out of proportion. Had they not called attention to it, I doubt anyone would have noticed the difference. Hell unisex bathrooms are something that's known here as well.

12. That was what I was going to say
if men dressed as women could use the female bathrooms, then why segregate them at all? That would be the logical step.

14. sex= physical traits, gender= mental conception.
So transgendered means that mental self perception of gender does not match outward sex, while transexual means that somebody is changing their physical manifestations of sex, by hormones, surgery or just makeup, clever dressing.

Cross-dressing is something else entirely, cross-dressers enjoy dressing as the opposite sex, but don't generally see themselves as members of that gender and most only cross-dress part time.

18. In countries with mature people, this wouldn't be an issue.
Hell, in Japan women work in the men's public bath area.

No big goddamned deal.

It's too bad that we in America teach our children to be afraid of their bodies.
