in my varied work history I worked in a mental institution as an attendant. As such, I had my share of dealings with disturbed people.

I've dodged flying chairs, tables and poop. I've seen people literally bouncing off the wall, and talking to people who aren't there. I've taken people down, put them in seclusion rooms, or tied them in wrist-ankle restraints.

and let me tell you - it's was helluva lot saner and safer working in that mental institution than it is venturing into the GD-P

I have got to say, I do think this is just about the worst I have EVER seen DU. I thought the Dean/Clark/Kerry threads were bad, but this shit is WAY worse. I thought the old Green threads were brutal, but what I see in GDP is as close to trench warfare I have ever seen on here.

Reminds me a hell of a lot of the old ABC boards and that is NOT a compliment. (I left ABC to go to Salon--so you know it had to be bad...)

I am putting myself in restraints and I will self medicate. Got any suggestions given your experience with mental health?

13. First time I started a thread

I've been bragging all day about it too. We went to the Washington state caucuses today so I've a really exciting day. I love telling people to bugger off. I'm having a nice cuppa tea now.

Of course... many years ago my roommate brilliantly told Skinner to go fuck himself and then ranted around my apartment for a week about how ridiculous it was that he was banned. LOL

It pissed me off too (at him), because *I* kept getting auto-banned trying to login because we shared the same IP...or something I'm not a brilliant computer person.

Anyway.. I got so used to just reading DU without logging in that I never thought about it much. Until just a few months ago. New apartment, new job, new school (graduate school) - decided it was time to start up here again!

I'm from Bedford. That's about 50 miles north of London and about 7 miles from RAF Chicksands, a former USAF base.

21. Yes I was here at the beginning

I joined up in April 2001 and I am here everyday. I think I lost my mind during the 2000 elections. I grabbed my pitch fork and ran into the street and nobody else did...till I found DU I thought nobody else cared. Now everything is getting sorted out and there's light at the end of the tunnel. I feel like it's safe to come out and play in the sunshine again.

It's like I've been sitting on my porch just watching all the doings on DU. I've seen them come and go.

My mum always was sun bathing. My parents are still living in England.

I was just remembering that people used to dread getting to 700 with their posts. It was called the 700 club. Does anyone remember that? I always wanted to get to 100 posts before I died. AND I DID IT!!!

I burn when I'm out in the sun for 5 minutes but my English brother, born and raised in England, when he visits me he bakes out in the Texas sun for hours. WHAT THE HELL!!!

32. Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.

It was like 110 degrees here and my mum dashes outside with glee to lie in the sun. We were watching her from the air conditioned house and my dad said "She's bloody mad".

My mum was here last when she was 73 and she told me she's not sunbathing anymore because she thinks it might be bad for her skin. That's like closing the barn door after the horses have bolted! My mums Welsh.
