4. Definitely. And lincoln logs, and slinkies, and Easy Bake ovens, etc.
All those old retro toys are still around; we middle-aged folks like to buy them for our kids.

Sometimes I've gotten excited about a birthday present or a X-mas present for my kids, thinking they'll love it because I loved it as a kid, and they're kinda like: "Oh. Okay. Thanks..." It's hard to predict what's going to float their boat. :)

It is a hobby I've shared with my son over the years. But it doesn't take much patience; otherwise I probably wouldn't be able to do it! :D

Have you taken your son to LEGOLAND in California? I've always wanted to go myself. I did play with Legos too, just not to the extent of you....

30. We went the year after it opened ('99), and again in 2000. I have also been there 2 additional
times. We might go back this summer.

Not many families have "played" with LEGO to the extent we do!

18. Sounds like a great kid. I am an HUGE fan of LEGO as a toy for children-- it is the ONLY
toy worthwhile IMO. My son is a math and science whiz, and I attribute a lot of that aptitude to his growing up playing with LEGO. Really.

I, OTOH, who also grew up on LEGO, but took the artistic route, and I think LEGO as a creative medium fostered my artistic growth. LEGO is so versatile, it really is for everyone! :D

That's right-- the name of the company is LEGO®.... all caps, and in the singular form. LEGO produces LEGO bricks.

60. I've forgotten the name, but...
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 07:12 PM by Kutjara
...they were these toy cars that had a big flywheel in them. You'd use this toothed plastic strip with a T-handle at the top to power up the flywheel and make the car go. The harder you pulled the strip out, the faster the car would travel. We'd really get those things flying down the street. Add a ramp, and you had a pretty lethal airborne weapon system. Even better, they were made out of some incredibly rugged plastic: you simply could not break them.

I think they were made by Mattel. They might have been called "SST". Google has been no help with this.

77. I would have destroyed all your toys with my BB gun.
I went through one of those 500 BB containers a week I think. There's a tree in my parents yard that probably has about $1000 worth of copper in it.

I loved those things. I kept them for my kids, though Schleich makes even nicer ones now. :-)

100. Hmmm I guess it's un-PC, but still, in the sense of a simple, stylized doll, it's
much like others - Raggedy Anne (Ann?) and Raggedy Andy, for example.

I loved that toy, and appreciated it more once I took advanced mathematics.
Went on Ebay a few years back and bought a couple of sets so I can relive my childhood.

86. Sail Cat!
back in my time we was so poor we didn't get no store bought toys. So we had to improvise! we used to see a dead cat alongside the road and then wait a couple of days till it got good and stiff and throw them things like a frisbee. Dead frogs used to work in a pinch.

87. Lego is THE toy
though of course i'm referring to OLD SKOOL lego, not that new-fangled stuff the kids are playing with today. when i was a lad we had only maybe 30 different pieces to play with and thats the way we liked it!

I was crazy about Legos. As a child of the 80s, though, Nintendo was also a very big deal!

104. Wham-O™ slingshot

I still have mine and it looks exactly like this one. The gum rubber died decades ago, and all I can find is surgical hosing that isn't compatible with the design, so it sits and collects dust.
